I admit it, I am a Deadhead and a Phishhead, and a thousand heads in between and around.
There are innumerable rock songs dealing with dystopian ideas and issues.
What are your favorite dystopian rock songs?
For me, as a Deadhead, so I would cast a vote for Throwing Stones, a song from their 1987 album In the Dark, although they started playing the song back in 1982. But I can think of a bunch of others...
Anyone have any dystopian songs they’d like to offer?
Throwing Stones- Grateful Dead
Picture a bright blue ball just spinning, spinning free
Dizzy with eternity
Paint it with a skin of sky
Brush in some clouds and sea
Call it home for you and me
A peaceful place or so it looks from space
A closer look reveals the human race
Full of hope, full of grace
Is the human face
But afraid we may lay our home to waste
[Verse 1]
There's a fear down here we can't forget
Hasn't got a name just yet
Always awake, always around
Singing ashes, ashes, all fall down
Ashes, ashes, all fall down
[Verse 2]
Now watch as the ball revolves
And the nighttime falls
Again the hunt begins
Again the bloodwind calls
By and by, the morning sun will rise,
But the darkness never goes
From some men's eyes Full of hope, full of graceIs the human faceBut afraid we may lay our home to waste[Verse 1]There's a fear down here we can't forgetHasn't got a name just yetAlways awake, always aroundSinging ashes, ashes, all fall downAshes, ashes, all fall down[Verse 2]Now watch as the ball revolvesAnd the nighttime fallsAgain the hunt beginsAgain the bloodwind calls
It strolls the sidewalks and it rolls the streets
Staking turf, dividing up meat
Nightmare spook, piece of meat
It's you and me
You and me
