A concerning paradox in American democracy: the apparent disconnect between the act of voting and sustained public engagement with elected officials and their work.

It's alarming when a substantial piece of legislation—this "abomination of a bill"—can move through the political system with such limited public awareness. The fact that over a third of Americans had no opinion on it, and two-thirds knew "little to nothing" about it, points to a significant gap between governance and the governed.

This leads to a critical question: Why do Americans elect representatives only to seemingly disengage once those representatives have assumed office? It's a fundamental question that challenges the very nature of representative democracy and the expectations placed upon both citizens and their elected officials.
