Borowitz is awesome today, not funny [1]

I love Andy Borowitz’s humor but today’s post is not at all humorous. It’s deadly serious, and absolutely brilliant. He re-writes a modern version of the Declaration of Independence listing all of the grievances that any modern patriot should have against our present fascist overlords.

He introduces it thusly:

When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for a people to break from a leader who governs with cruelty, contempt, and corruption, a decent respect to the opinions of humankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all people are created equal, endowed with inherent dignity and unalienable rights—among these are life, liberty, equality, and the pursuit of justice.

I urge everyone to read it in full. Like the original US declaration, it’s fairly short and to the point, but it’s obvious we have just as serious a case to prosecute as did the colonists in 1776.
