My letter to WV Rep. Riley Moore [1]

I wrote to my representative in Congress, Riley Moore, about the Big Buffoonish Budget today. He claims he reads his emails and will reply. My experience in West Virginia is that hardly anyone contacts any public officials here, and as a result, they are generally quite accessible and very responsive. I’ve had nice long phone calls with local prosecutors, the State Auditor’s office, a high-ranking director at the WV Public Service Commission and many others. I hope Rep. Moore actually reads my letter.

I don’t understand why West Virginia hasn’t turned away from the Republicans and gone back to being a blue state. WV was historically Democratic until G.W. Bush got them to vote against their union roots and most of their other best interests.

Here’s my letter to Rep. Moore:

Email to WV Rep Riley Moore against the “Big Beautiful Bill”:

“Dear Rep. Moore -This is a very disturbing time, when the representatives from many of the states that depend the most on Federal funds are voting to cut those same funds. West Virginia is a state that depends heavily on Federal funding. The new budget you are voting on today is clearly not designed to meet the needs of ordinary people. It is designed to give a big, unnecessary tax cut to very rich people, and won't help the people in West Virginia that you represent, and will in fact cause thousands of them to suffer needlessly.

It really looks like all of the Republicans are voting for this bill because they are afraid of Donald Trump, and afraid that he will threaten them and their families, and ruin their careers.

This is called blackmail. Don't allow yourself to be blackmailed into voting for a terrible bill that will definitely hurt many people in West Virginia, and cause the most suffering among those that are the poorest and least fortunate.

Medicaid and SNAP are not luxuries - people don't resort to these forms of help unless they are very poor and desperate. They hardly give you anything — try living on SNAP funds for 2 weeks yourself and see how you like it. See what kind of health care you get on Medicaid. It's not very good. It's a bare minimum of human decency.

In conclusion, if you are indeed my Representative in the US Congress, and if you are actually interested in helping the people in your state and your district, you will gather up your strength and vote NO on the "Big Beautiful Bill".

Your actions will be remembered by all of us who vote in West Virginia's Second Congressional District.”

We’ll see if Rep. Moore has any balls at all, or if he just sends me a form letter and caves to Trump’s blackmail.
