I'm wearing black on July 4 [1]

Usually on July 4, I wear some or all of the Red, White & Blue colors. Usually, I celebrate the USA and what it stands for. I cheer when the fireworks are set off, often accompanied by patriotic music.

Not this year.

This year, I’m wearing black.

That’s because, quite the opposite of Reagan’s “Morning in America,” I’m in mourning for America. I don’t have to take up space here explaining why. The good people of Daily Kos know the reasons all too well.

I will be going to a family-attended barbecue event that I know will have plenty of Republicans. There will be many flags, folks dressed in red, white and blue, and, I’m sure, lots of hypocritical and empty cheering for America.

These folks may not know why I will be dressed in black.

But I will know why.
