In the midst of a climate catastrophe, most of us work together, try to conserve and ration resources and try to take care of the youngest, oldest and most vulnerable.
Some of us immediately become connoisseurs of human flesh, smoking it like ham and creating recipes.
And because history is always being written, those who will be judged harshly are constantly trying to control what is written, what is read and what is taught to children. Because the descendants of the Donner Party cannibals are still around and still protective of their family names and reputations, the story of the Donner Party is not widely known, and certainly isn’t widely taught in schools.
This is America today. We have decided that we are not the Donners, those bleeding heart food-sharing elitists. Rather, we are the families that ate their pioneering neighbors. When we are scared, we Americans would evidently rather become cannibals (“winners!”) than to risk becoming starving suckers (“loooosers!”). But we don't want to talk about it, and we don’t want anyone else talking about it, either.
These people would rob the other passengers on an airplane as it fell from the sky. They are in charge now.
