Can We Blitz Back? [1]

Credit where due. For all its windy subtitle, MSNBC’s 6/15 segment “Resistance or bust: Military troops in U.S. cities signal a national inflection point” rocks out some sorely needed truth on the nation morphing into what host Ali Velshi calls “an open battlefield.”
To amplify, let’s use two brief tweaks. One, “inflection” sounds clever, but misses the bullseye. In math, it denotes a change in a curve’s direction. In truth, plain old plane geometry points define the issue: our backward march toward (and beyond) McCarthyism has comprised a long, straight, linear, self-defeating galumph.
Two, we who support our Supreme Law’s freedom-friendly paradigms have yet to align ourselves to fight back. Hence, we see not so much a “battlefield” as a target-rich duck pond. (Blasted. Bombed. Not to say blitzed.)
Echoing Shakespeare, said line runs out to the crack (or quack) of doom. Seeking a puncher’s chance to survive as something more than a fiefdom/thiefdom), we’ll do well to heed the rude awakening that, five years ago, befell Velshi himself.
On 5/25/20, a Minneapolis cop ritually slaughtered an alleged $20 fraud perp. Whoa. By then, then-President Trump had perpetrated a fraud wave that would culminate in his UNANIMOUS CONVICTION ON DOZENS OF FELONY COUNTS, EACH FAR EXCEEDING 20 BUCKS. (Ten-hut. No matter how well his mug might coordinate with orange jumpsuits, he has yet to do the time in line with the crimes. Sad.)
Five days after Derek Chauvin took a knee to George Floyd’s windpipe, members of our “free press” tried to cover a protest in Minneapolis- and became targets. Police and national guard spewed teargas and fired rubber bullets; one of the latter hit Velshi’s left shin.
Talk about beauty in the eye of the beholder. All too characteristically, that freedom-averse attack struck Trump as “the most beautiful thing.” At a 9/18/20 rally in Bemidji, he raved “I remember this guy Welchie (sic); he got hit by a teargas canister (sic) and went down. He was down. Nobody [in my profess Christian cult] cared.”
And the beat goes on. Presumably, we should all care profoundly about sprinting-not-creeping neo-Nazism in or near high places. But still. Howling “Heil Hitler,” Trump surrogate Ye effectively craves mass slaughter. Trump’s now prodigal ‘Doge’ (a term synonymous, in Italian, to “Duce,” viz. Founding Fascist Benito Mussolini), Elon Musk, has flashed hysterical, unambiguous Nazi salutes. Not to mention Trump’s own veep once posited The Donald as “America’s Hitler.” (Pity.)
Be it resolved: hindsight must be 20/20. Not without reason, my late father (a WWII vet) called the ogre who became Ye’s express idol “the worst person who ever lived.” And there’s more. Starting a decade or so after V-E Day, Dad began to wonder “What if some [Joe] McCarthy-type demagogue were to win the White House?” (Call me biased if you like. But smack on the face of it, he evinced some sorely needed prescience.)
In all, after glancing at math, lit, history, and politics, let’s peek at physics. Pondering “dark matter” (transparent, actually), scions of Einstein posit “Weakly Interacting Massive Particles;” for all their pull on galaxies, they get belittled as ‘WIMPs.’
Sadly enough, one can apply that acronym to our politics. For decades, the once fierce, once dominant forces of FDR have effectively recast themselves as Wonky Insipid Milquetoast Pols. Doing so, through time, they’ve wilted into (you guessed it) WIMPs. Better late than never, let’s demand stronger and better- or expect a whole lot more of the worst.
