When using sexist language isn't sexist. [1]

There's a piece today titled "The girls" renew their feud as Trump considers deporting Musk. It references a comment made by AOC that 'the girls are fighting aren’t they'. The comment section under the article is overrun with opprobrium over sexist stereotypes which normally would have merit, but in this case do not.

The point of AOC's choice of language, and that of Oliver Willis the author of the above mentioned piece, wasn't to say girls are somehow more childish than boys. It was about getting under the skin of these two bigots with fragile, toxic male egos and gender insecurity who believe that to be the case in terms they could not use to reinterpret their childishness as a good thing.

If she had said the boys are fighting again, these clowns would take it as a complement. They are mentally and emotionally boys, not men, who view being boys as positive. She could have said the children, but it just wouldn't have had the same sting.

In this case using otherwise sexist language isn't sexist at all. Heck, calling them girls is actually a compliment given their conduct and who they are, but they are too sexist to see it that way.... which is kind of the point.
