RCV results were released today, following last Tuesday’s first-round voting results for the NYC Primary races. In the race for Mayor. Zohran Mamdani was first at 43.5%, Andew Cuomo was second at 36.4% and Brad Lander was third, far back at 11.3%. Calculation of subsequent RCV rounds was delayed until today to allow receipt of mail-in ballots.

In the lead up to the Primary, several candidates discussed plans for tactical cross-endorsements, encouraging voters to select someone else in the 2nd choice column. Mamdani and Lander cross-endorsed each other, as did Mamdani and Michael Blake. Whitney Tilson and Jessica Ramos cross-endorsed Andrew Cuomo. None of these mad a difference.

In calculating later round RCV results, the rule allowed 2 or more candidates to be eliminated at the same time if their aggregate total was less than that of someone higher up on the list. The second round of RCV only reallocated votes of 1,473 voters who had done a write-in for their first choice (219 votes went to Cuomo, 151 went to Adrienne Adams and 102 went to Mamdani). The third round eliminated all 9 remaining candidates, leaving only Mamdani and Cuomo, and pushing Mamdani to a win with 56% (+99,069) to Cuomo’s 44% (+53,493).
