Summary: Who is Donald Trump?

Cruelty

x This is Trump's "Alligator Alcatraz." I hope people see this for what it is — which is a cruel and inhumane gimmick concocted by a weak, sad, and sadistic human being. The heat will be excruciating. Older folks and those w/pre-existing conditions will die. pic.twitter.com/4aYuXwCBca — Bill Madden (@maddenifico) July 1, 2025

It Stinks to High Heaven

So, the GOP will have its tax cuts (largely) at the expense of the working poor. It will add over $4 trillion to the national debt and cause untold and widespread misery.

Is this the recipe for legislative disaster, causing the GOP to lose the US House of Representatives and the US Senate in the 2026 Midterm Elections? My gut political instincts tell me, yes.

Can the Democratic Party take advantage of this unnecessary cruelty and Republican self-inflicted political wound? I don’t know the answer to that question.

A Big, Bad, Very Ugly Bill “Beautiful” it is not. x Billionaire tax cuts are a policy choice. Cutting healthcare for millions is a policy choice. Taking from those in need and giving to the rich is a policy choice.

Make no mistake: Trump and the GOP are choosing to do this with their budget bill. [Cartoon by Jesse Duquette] pic.twitter.com/odaPTAVImy — Robert Reich (@RBReich) July 1, 2025 Attribution: Jesse Duquette The tax code would become more regressive. According to one estimate, households in the top 0.1 percent of the income distribution would get a $296,160 annual tax break. Families in the top 1 percent would retain $78,650 a year. The average family in the bottom fifth of the income distribution would get a tax cut of $160... The ‘big, beautiful bill’ finances largesse for the rich with austerity for the poor… The bill is likely to cut billions of dollars in Medicare funding, though Trump swore he would not touch the program. It strips coverage from authorized immigrants and might trim Medicare’s savings programs, which help poor seniors afford care. An older couple earning $21,000 a year could spend $8,340 more a year on premiums and out-of-pocket costs, according to one projection. It will kill tens of thousands of Americans and impoverish millions more to grant million-dollar tax cuts to Trump and other billionaires. It will gut the Affordable Care Act to enrich corporations that move jobs overseas. And it will do nothing to solve the cost-of-living crisis that propelled Trump into office.” x pic.twitter.com/OBzdtfhDXf — mike luckovich (@mluckovichajc) July 1, 2025

This cartoon captures perfectly how the provisions of and the GOP arguments about the big ugly bill have had nothing to do with what helps everyday Americans navigate today’s struggles.

Autocracy Unlimited
