Even Little Libraries are Threatened. [1]

This past Sunday Morning my dog and I were doing our usual weekend routine of walking over to the local grade school. It has large yards full of squirrels that my little dog, Zeke, loves to chase. Thankfully though, the squirrels are far too fast for him to ever catch.
Once he was tuckered out from the chases and had completed his doggies “doodies,” we headed back toward the parking lot and to the school’s driveway.
It was walking to the drive where I witnessed something flabbergasting.
As the dog and I were heading towards the driveway, we saw a white SUV drive up and park next to a “Little Library” box that was set up at on a small division of land between the driveway and the parking lot.
For those not familiar, a Little Library is a box made for people to freely share books. This idea was started by a charity in Minnesota and has grown to 200K+ little libraries spread around the world. They’re simple wonderful little local altars to free speech.
After the SUV parked, a 30ish year old white guy, in beard and baseball cap, jumps out of the car and runs over to the Little Library box. He then opens it and starts rummaging through it.
It appears he’s search for something. I at first assumed he was picking up a book for his kids.
But then, as he’s empty handed, he closes the box, gets back into his SUV, turns it around and heads back toward the road.
That’s when I see his car’s bumper has several far-right Militia stickers adhered to it. The “Three Percenter” sticker was the one that stood out most.
Making the connection, I look down at my dog Zeke and say, “Hey look, little buddy! Another brain-dead doofus triggered into searching for books that might not pass his fascist approval!”
I could also assume that perhaps this guy, fresh from a hate filled sermon at his church, was triggered enough to appoint himself the lone protector of Children’s Literature.
I bet he was looking for any books that push a LGBTQ agenda, since those militias types are tender snowflakes fearful of anything remotely woke or diverse in content.
However seeing this I’m now motivated. I think I’m going to start putting my own progressive books and comics (such as my Manifesto Calypso comic!) into this box. I’ve yet to see a kid ever take a book from this box but if I can annoy this goofball, that alone will give sense of satisfaction.
Also, this self-appointed censor reminded me of a saying: “Fools only look for demons without and never address their demons within.”
