Death to the IDF [1]

This post is about the chanting at the Glastonbury Music Festival. If you are not aware of it, here is a quick recap
x It feels like we've reached an inflection point.
British music festival goers are chanting for "death to the IDF".
That's not a call for peace, cease fire or reconciliation. It's a call for war.
This is mass insanity, and it's spreading.pic.twitter.com/u0NPsNiKZa — John Aziz (@aziz0nomics) June 28, 2025
I consider myself to be part of the Pro Palestinian movement, so I feel like it is my duty to speak out here. This is meant solely for others who support the Palestinian struggle for equal rights.
There are lots of good ways of going about that struggle, or supporting it. This is not one of them. It is perfectly fine to call out the IDF for various war crimes. It is perfectly fine to call for a boycott of the IDF, and of the broader Israeli society that supports it.
It is not fine to call for the death of anyone, or any group, even a genocidal army or society.
There are several reasons for this.
First, we are all going to die, whether or not someone chants for it or not. Death is the only pre-ordained destiny that is completely out of our control. Chanting for it is an illustration of our own impotence.
Second, how do you think the Israeli society got to this point? They have segments who have been chanting “death to Arabs”, and “may your village burn” for ages, and others who simply look the other way when such chants happen. That is exactly how they got to this point. Take a good look at them...that is what you will become if you partake in, or accept such chants. Wave any flag hard enough, and you eventually become raving lunatics… it does not matter what colors/symbols are displayed on that flag.
Third, how do you go from swearing by Gandhi/Mandela to chanting for death ? One of the principles of the non-violent struggle taught by Gandhi is that you cannot be certain of the truth, no matter how hard you have worked to arrive at that truth. Therefore, the only form of violence that is acceptable in a moral universe is the one that is directed at us.
So, my suggestion to my fellow Pro Palestinian supporters is to walk out of such music festivals, or protests, or marches, etc.
