I am not especially thrilled to have my home country governed by spite. Are any of you?
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Food & Wine: Japanese Potato Salad; Caesar Potato Salad; Classic Potato Salad. I would cut the amount of mayonnaise in half and add rather more mustard; but these all sound good to me.
From NASA: a dying star
From Allrecipes: 20 quick side dishes
Crows understand shapes, use geometry.
Brodo smoothies. I’d prefer to leave them chunky and call them soups, myself. I’ve never cared for smoothies of any description — I can do a chocolate malt every couple of years, but that’s about it.
A recently discovered snail has been named for Picasso.
1440 has recently covered the subject of barbeque.
Roses used to all be yellow.
Okay, this one is a personal interest — I’ve always been fascinated by World War I, though no other I’ve ever heard of. What caused WWI?
Cajun Lemonade. It’s a cocktail.
Ten thousand years of chewing gum.
Predicting wine quality by the animal on the label.
Some states are adding cursive handwriting to their curricula again. It’s been a while, and studies have shown there are some advantages.

Progress on the cleaning. Kitchen, dining area and living room mopped — loud cheers and great rejoicing! The bathroom needs it, too.
I did have incentive for mopping the the kitchen, actually. I cooked some bacon Thursday evening, and I had a problem with getting the second batch out of my convection oven. I did save the bacon, but the grease went all over the floor in front of the oven. Since I have made a habit of timing things to let them cool a bit before I take them out of the oven, all it did was make a mess — the grease was still a bit hot, but not enough to burn me the couple of places I got splashed. The grandkids cleaned the grease up for me on Friday, and when they were done, I mopped.

My niece seems to have been pretty diligent about winding up my mother’s estate. If I read the forms that arrived on Friday correctly, the last insurance disbursement has arrived and been deposited into the estate account and as soon as the four of us send back the signed forms, everything can be submitted to close probate.

Love you guys!
