DoJ enforcement priorities memo may tell why Daily Kos is a target. Denaturalization is on the list [1]

The Department of “Justice” Civil Division — not the Civil Rights Division — issued a memo specifying its revised enforcement priorities. It’s pretty clear that DoJ is planning to cram trumpism down everyone’s throats under color of law, and it might explain what kos was referring to when he wrote:

We are facing an action from the Department of Justice. I choose those words carefully. Nothing has been formally filed yet, but when any part of this government—under Donald Trump’s command—makes a move, it’s serious. This DOJ has abandoned all pretense of going after real criminals (Trump just pardons them) and is now focused squarely on silencing his enemies.

These are the areas of civil enforcement that DOJ plans to prioritize:

“Combatting Discriminatory Practices and Policies,” aka pursue litigation involving alleged violations of federal civil rights laws rules by executive order by recipients of federal funds, a clear shot at DEI and DEIA programs “Ending Antisemitism,” aka enforcement actions against anyone who expresses opposition to Israel’s brutality against Palestinians “Protecting Women and Children,” aka investigations into doctors, hospitals, and pharmaceutical companies that provide gender-related health care, mostly for transgender support but possibly including medications for abortion as well “Ending Sanctuary Jurisdictions,” aka prioritize litigation to invalidate any state or local laws that don’t assist trump’s deportation squads “Prioritizing Denaturalization,” aka try to revoke citizenship from as many naturalized citizens as possible so they can be deported

So why is DoJ pursuing action against Daily Kos?

Does Daily Kos have DEI/DEIA policies? Does Daily Kos receive any federal funds like it did during the COVID pandemic? If so, DoJ is coming for us.

Does Daily Kos create and allow criticism of Israel or support for Palestinians? DoJ is coming for us.

These are, of course, simply pretexts for going after people and organizations who oppose trump and his policies. I suspect that other prominent Democratic and progressive organizations are being similarly targeted for punishment for daring to refuse to bend the knee to bigotry and hatred.

Denaturalization doesn’t apply to this site but it could apply to kos personally all naturalized citizens. In addition to trying to deport violent all undocumented immigrants and revoking temporary authorizations previously extended under temporary protected status and humanitarian parole programs that trump cancelled, trump’s DoJ is targeting naturalized citizens, looking for legal ways to denaturalize them in order to deport them according to the National Law Review:

DOJ Civil Division Prioritizes Denaturalization in New Enforcement Memo On June 11, 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Division issued an internal memorandum outlining its latest enforcement priorities. The memo, signed by Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate, directs DOJ attorneys to advance the administration’s goals through targeted civil enforcement. One of the priorities highlighted in the memo is denaturalization, or the process of revoking U.S. citizenship acquired through naturalization. […] Over the past several years, denaturalization has received increased attention as an enforcement tool. During the first Trump administration, the DOJ expanded its focus on identifying cases in which naturalization may have been obtained through fraud or serious misconduct, and a dedicated Denaturalization Section was established in 2020 to pursue a broader range of denaturalization actions. The June 2025 memo continues that trajectory, directing Civil Division attorneys to “prioritize and maximally pursue denaturalization proceedings in all cases permitted by law and supported by the evidence.”

The articles lists 10 categories of people whose naturalized citizenship could be revoked, leaving them vulnerable to being deported. Numbers 9 and 10 are particularly concerning since they are so vague, they amount to “whoever DoJ wants to target”:

Individuals who pose a threat to national security, including those connected to terrorism, espionage, or unlawful export of sensitive U.S. technologies; Human rights violators, such as individuals involved in war crimes or torture; Affiliates of transnational criminal organizations, gangs, or drug cartels; Individuals who committed serious criminal offenses that were not disclosed during the naturalization process; Those convicted of human trafficking, sex offenses, or violent crimes; Individuals who engaged in fraud involving U.S. government programs (e.g., Paycheck Protection Program or Medicaid/Medicare fraud); Individuals who committed large-scale financial fraud against private entities; Cases involving citizenship obtained through bribery, misrepresentation, or other corruption; Cases referred by U.S. Attorney’s Offices in connection with other criminal charges; and, Any other case the Civil Division determines sufficiently important to pursue.

I wrote about trump’s intent to target naturalized citizens, including the number of naturalized citizens and the DHS software program for identifying them for investigation, in this December diary.
