Democracy At Stake [1]

We are witnessing the demise of democracy. As a 20 year military veteran, I always worried what would happen if someone challenged the democratic process and the rule of law as set in motion by our founding fathers.
There are always factions of the public that are on the edge radicalization, which I could see while serving, a few, misguided individuals always bitter and needing someone to blame. Fox News came on the scene full force during Desert Storm, waving the flag, and inspiring soldiers, airman, marines, and sailors, of which I must say, almost hooked me at that time, to tap into the enthusiasm during a time of patriotic pride. When the military actions ceased, Fox needed something else to write or bitch about to keep the new audience, so they shifted even further to the right. This along with the AM Radio right wing preachers in the 90’s, such as Rush Limbaugh, stoked hate of the liberal establishment even further, a totally new concept on the radio. Then the unthinkable happened, a black president. Let’s turn up the hate and racism even more on the right!
The racist hate, blame, and delusional taking heads on the right exploded even more during the Obama years. Trump, a failed businessman and reality TV star, was the perfect foil the right. Hate squared covered in racism (birtherism) with the ability sell people on his agenda. Thank God for the saine members of his cabinet, but that level of sanity has been shown the door during this term with Trump figuring out that he needed to be surrounded by yes men and women. Maga is a cult, but the real issue is democracy.
With the project 2025 play book, we can now see just how fragile democracy can be. Democracy is based on trust, the rule of law, and checks and balances. We have seen the checks and balances being challenged and eroded daily. What we have also witnessed is the fragility of democracy. There is no respect for the law, courts, judges, or any saine voice of the Republican establishment, which is preparing a burial plot for the old Republican Party. The looming threat of elected officials challenging Trump is being primaried by MAGA. Few have the fortitude to go after the insanity of the buffoon.
The next election cycle will require the democratic party to unify and have a single voice, something that the Republican/MAGA party has always been able to do and stay on message. If we cannot do this during the next election cycle, the Democratic Party will be doomed. Too many times the party shoots itself in the foot, just like the last election, by not getting behind the candidate 100% due to hard feelings. There may be no elections if we are not careful. Yes, it can happen and just did in Palm Beach County where the postponed elections for a year. Democracy is fragile. Embrace it! Fight for it!
