Everyone cares just a little too little
If we could just care a little too much
If we could just care a little too much
About each other and about a stranger

Why must we know a face, a name for our hearts to engage
Everyone’s pain is the same, the ache and tears taste the same
What’s the point of life, if not to breathe life, into life
To light a smile, to make joy bloom in someone’s heart
---
We care enough to give to charity
But not enough to get involved personally
We commiserate with some distant pain
But turn away from an extended hand
---
Why must we wait, until it’s often too late, for our hearts to ache
A stranger’s cries, sound no different to the ears of the kind
What’s the point of loving, if not to share, the overflowing
To coax a laugh, to deposit love in someone’s heart
---
Everyone cares just a little too little
If we could just care a little too much
