Hello everyone! I’m just going to keep reminding all of us that Nanny Ogg is traveling and we’d still welcome volunteers to write on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Regular writers are scheduled to pick up extra days, but we’d love a hand for the next 6 weeks if anyone feels they could jump in with a diary or two. Critter herders would also be much appreciated! Group efforts are the best efforts!!

First things first. Here is the latest diary from chloris creator:

Some of the News tRump Doesn't Want You to See

Thank you, cc!

===

I think this will set the tone for my Shade this evening.

x the actual story here is that the president of the united states is a pathological liar and unhinged narcissist who regularly invents world-shaking claims and takes credit for things that didn't happen, BUT THE NEWS MEDIA CANNOT SAY THAT, so instead the story becomes "is there a war? who knows!" — Will Stancil (@whstancil.bsky.social) June 23, 2025 at 11:19 PM

Although I’d change it to ...THE NEWS MEDIA WILL NOT SAY THAT...

'Stop the tragedy of war,' pope says after U.S. bombs Iran

Hours after the United States bombed the sites of three nuclear-enrichment facilities in Iran, Pope Leo XIV called the situation in the Middle East "alarming" and said diplomacy was the only responsible way forward. "Every member of the international community has a moral responsibility: Stop the tragedy of war before it becomes an irreparable abyss," the pope said June 22 after reciting the Angelus prayer with thousands of people in St. Peter's Square. ✂️ Addressing the crowds in St. Peter's Square, Pope Leo said people all over the world were praying and crying for peace. "It is a cry that calls for responsibility and reason and must not be drowned out by the din of weapons," Pope Leo said. "There is no faraway conflict when human dignity is at stake." ✂️

About that ceasefire the felon was so quick to declare… He lies as often as he breathes.

Iran says an hour before Trump's ceasefire announcement they hadn't seen any proposal

Just an hour before President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, a senior Iranian official that the country had not seen any ceasefire proposal, and reportedly saw no reason for one, a source has revealed. The official went on to say that Iran would continue to fight until it achieves a "lasting peace," adding that it would view remarks from Israel and the US as “a deception” intended to justify attacks on Iran’s interests. “At this very moment, the enemy is committing aggression against Iran, and Iran is on the verge of intensifying its retaliatory strikes, with no ear to listen to the lies of its enemies,” the official told CNN. Neither Iran nor Israel has publicly confirmed the ceasefire agreement, and just minutes after Trump's post, CNN journalists on the ground in Iran reported hearing explosions in the Iranian capital of Tehran. Trump announced via TruthSocial Monday night, saying that Iran and Israel had accepted the terms of a ceasefire to begin in approximately six hours after just a little over a week of exchanging missile fire. ✂️

Scott Dworkin makes an excellent point. (Bolding is mine.)

Great News That’s Truly Bad For Trump

✂️ And just yesterday, Trump lied by posting that there was a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. Every major news org blindly repeated the lie, even though Israel refused to comment on it, and Iran denied even knowing about any ceasefire. ✂️

Heather Cox Richardson is wonderful about distilling the news. She freely offers her letters so I will cite several pertinent paragraphs here. The whole letter is worth a read.

June 24, 2025

At 6:02 last night, President Donald Trump announced on his social media account that Israel and Iran has agreed to “a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE” that would lead to “an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR.” Maggie Haberman of the New York Times reported today that the announcement took some of Trump’s own senior advisors by surprise. Since then, Trump’s social media feed has been unusually active, posting claims that his approval rate is soaring, that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, that “for the first time ever [a] majority of Americans believe the United States is on the right track,” and that “Trump was right about everything.” “THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!” Trump’s social media feed posted at 1:08 this morning. But within hours, Israel had struck Iran again. At 6:50, Trump’s social media feed posted: “ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.” At 7:28 it posted: ISRAEL is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly “Plane Wave” to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the Ceasefire is in effect! Thank you for your attention to this matter! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.” After Israel struck, Iran retaliated. This morning, Trump accused both countries of violating the ceasefire agreement—although, to be sure, there has been no published confirmation that any such agreement exists. Sounding angry, Trump told reporters: “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f--- they’re doing.” At 11:17 the account posted: “Both Israel and Iran wanted to stop the War, equally! It was my great honor to Destroy All Nuclear facilities & capability, and then, STOP THE WAR!” It also attacked Democrats, especially women of color, at length, saying they were stupid and “can’t stand the concept of our Country being successful again.” The account also said: “Now that we have made PEACE abroad, we must finish the job here at home by passing “THE GREAT, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL,” and getting the Bill to my desk, ASAP. It will be a Historic Present for THE GREAT PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, as we begin the Celebration of our Country’s 250th Birthday. We are finally entering our Golden Age, which will bring unprecedented Safety, Security, and Prosperity for ALL of our Citizens.” In fact, Trump’s victory lap seems designed to be the finale to a triumphant storyline that can convince his loyalists he has scored an enormous victory before reality sets in. According to a new CNN poll, Americans disapprove of the U.S. military strikes against Iran by a margin of 56% to 44%. Further, Natasha Bertrand, Katie Bo Lillis, and Zachary Cohen of CNN reported today that according to early assessments by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) of the damage caused by the U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, the strikes did not destroy the main parts of the Iran’s nuclear program and probably set it back by only a few months. The DIA is the intelligence arm of the Pentagon. The White House called the DIA assessment “flat out wrong.” Later today, the New York Times confirmed CNN’s reporting. Republican senator Rand Paul of Kentucky suggested today that the Obama administration had the right approach when it negotiated the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) that limited Iran’s nuclear program. Paul said: “I’m arguing that the intervention, the military intervention, may not have been successful, as people are saying, and also that there may not be a military answer to this, that ultimately the answer to the end of the nuclear program is going to involve diplomacy.” A video on Trump’s social media feed posted at 7:15 tonight recalled Senator John McCain’s 2007 call to “bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran” to the tune of the Beach Boys’ “Barbara Ann.” Trump’s version used McCain’s “bomb Iran” chorus but was longer and had visual imagery of planes dropping bombs. In Trump’s version, the soundtrack to the video used the melody of Barbara Ann to say things like: “went to a mosque, gonna throw some rocks, tell the ayatollah gonna put you in a box,” and “old Uncle Sam, getting pretty hot, gonna turn Iran into a parking lot.” It is a truism that, like other authoritarians, Trump tries only to appeal to his supporters, but I confess this video, from the president of the United States, left me aghast. It seems to me long past time to question the 79-year-old president’s mental health. Tonight, Trump’s social media feed posted: “FAKE NEWS CNN, TOGETHER WITH THE FAILING NEW YORK TIMES, HAVE TEAMED UP IN AN ATTEMPT TO DEMEAN ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL MILITARY STRIKES IN HISTORY. THE NUCLEAR SITES IN IRAN ARE COMPLETELY DESTROYED! BOTH THE TIMES AND CNN ARE GETTING SLAMMED BY THE PUBLIC!”

I’m out of adjectives to describe his insanity.

The lies aren’t confined to the felon, as we all know.

x Schrier to RFK Jr: You gave Cassidy the answer he needed to hear in order to get his confirmation vote, then as soon as you were secretary you turned around & fired all 17 members. You lied. I also want to be clear that I will lay all responsibility for every vaccine-preventable death at your feet.

And more lies from rfk, jr. (Personal resistance prevents me from capitalizing their names. 😎)

x Mr. Kennedy, who said he is not going to take away anyone's vaccines, has made it impossible to get COVID-19 vaccines in pregnancy. In other words, he lied. www.cnn.com/2025/06/12/h...

And more lies… I encourage you all to click the flutter of Reichlin-Melnick and bathe in the comments. Spot on.

x This literally did not happen. No children were “lost.” The entire thing stems from a willful misreading of a DHS OIG report.

I’m convinced they bought this to have somewhere to go to try and stay out of prison. I suppose they could invite the whole lawbreaking gang. Imagine that scenario. All the lawless administration officials on an island to do what they want. Talk to me of Lord of the Flies.

Do we have an extradition treaty with Albania? (Why yes. Yes we do.)

From the article in The Guardian

✂️When I reached Kushner by phone the same month, I detected brimming enthusiasm for Sazan, which he seemed to regard as something of a treasure. He said he plans “to create the ideal resort that I’d want to be at with my family and with my friends”.✂️

I really do think I’m onto something...😂

I am enjoying seeing all the things the parliamentarian is cutting from the big ugly bill. That is terrific news. In addition to all of that, Chris Bowers points out problems for the Rs with the bill as written.

There is Another Fatal Flaw in the Republican Megabill Spoiler alert: It defunds red America

✂️ One of the main sources of revenue—approximately $193 billion—that the megabill will use to pay for an extension of tax cuts that disproportionately benefit wealthy Americans comes from cutting tax breaks on clean energy projects that were passed in the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act. An analysis from Politico indicates that roughly three-quarters of the 794 projects that would have been built because of these credits are planned in House districts controlled by Republicans. ✂️ Another key way that the megabill will offset the cost of tax breaks for wealthy Americans is by reducing the so called Medicaid provider tax. This tax is somewhat difficult to explain, but in short it is a key way that Medicaid is funded. NBC News has an explainer on the Medicaid provider tax here. An analysis published last week by KFF showed that cutting the provider tax will have a disproportionately negative impact on rural hospitals. Once again, this means that the megabill is making steep cuts to red America in order to extend tax cuts that disproportionately benefit wealthy Americans. ✂️ All told, if this bill passes, it is going to be difficult for Republicans who are running for re-election in 2026 and 2028 to explain to their constituents why they voted for cuts that disproportionately impacted their own constituents. By contrast, because many of these cuts are delayed until 2028 or 2029, the Democrats who are challenging these incumbent Republicans in purple and red areas will be able to make a pretty strong case that if they are elected, they can reverse the cuts in 2029 before they ever really take hold.

===

And Matt Kerbel chimes in too.

Byrd Bath

✂️ While the removal of these items makes this monstrosity of a bill less awful, it also creates political problems for a Republican conference that is trying to hold on to enough of its members to get the legislation through the Senate and House. Every deleted provision upsets the delicate balance of interests that have been assembled to get the bill this far. Recall that the original House version made it through by only one vote. In the short run, changes to the bill are jeopardizing the Republican goal of getting it to Donald Trump’s desk by July 4. In the long run, the Byrd Bath is complicating the process of aligning whatever the Senate passes with what the House is willing to accept, because ultimately they have to approve the same language.✂️ What they do about this depends on the details of the final Senate bill and how completely Republicans cave under pressure from the White House. Ultimately, the pressure to come to an agreement and get legislation to Trump’s desk may be unbearable for Republicans, and they’ll find a way to pass . . . something. But the trouble they’re having is emblematic of what happens when Congress is trying to move legislation that the public does not want. Polling makes clear that this legislation isn’t just unpopular—it’s poisonous. As we discussed on Monday, it would be the most unpopular major legislation of the past 34 years. And with the featured Medicaid cuts promising to hurt Republican base voters, you almost have to scratch your head and ask if they’re thinking through the political costs of what they’re trying to accomplish. ✂️

I’m not sure what to make of this. It’s good news Big Balls is out, but what did he take with him and what does he plan to do with it?

‘Big Balls’ No Longer Works for the US Government

✂️When Musk exited government in an official capacity last month, DOGE’s future was uncertain. Musk’s top lieutenant, Steve Davis, president of the Boring Company, another Musk venture, also announced he would leave DOGE with Musk. Sahil Lavingia, a former DOGE member who WIRED first identified at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs says, “I have heard since Elon and Steve have supposedly departed, they’ve terminated a lot of those that got hired. They're all still probationary, right? There's that two-year probationary period. So there's a good chance that a lot of those people end up getting fired anyway.” Coristine, according to Lavingia, was one of a small group of technologists who were highly trusted within DOGE and deployed across multiple federal agencies, and given multiple federal laptops. “The core group of pre-inauguration engineers joked about how many laptops they had. It was almost like a competition in the sense to have seven, eight different laptops that they would run around with,” says Lavingia. During his time in government—a period in which DOGE sought to dismantle large parts of the federal bureaucracy, obtained direct access to sensitive federal payment systems, and worked to join siloed systems together to enable surveillance of people in the US—Coristine appeared at the GSA, Office of Personnel Management, the US Agency for International Development, the Department of Education, and the Small Business Administration. Coristine, who has gone by the handle “Big Balls” online, is a 19-year-old high school graduate who worked at Neuralink for several months and founded a company called Tesla.Sexy LLC in 2021. The company owns several domains including two registered in Russia, one of which is an AI Discord bot. He also briefly worked for a company founded by reformed blackhat hackers called the Path Network, and a Telegram handle associated with Coristine appears to have solicited a distributed denial of service attack.

I learned from a friend in New York about Zohran Mamdani a few weeks ago when I posted that story in the Shade. I could not be happier about the outcome of the NY primary. I do think Brad Lander has tremendous promise as well. New York should be in good hands. 💙

It’s icing on the cake that the felon is freaking out about it. 🤣

This is completely bonkers and is breaking news this afternoon.

News on the Emil Bove hearing. OMG. The felon has nominated him for a seat on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. The whole article is eye opening.

Trump’s Pick for the Third Circuit Is Clearly Unfit

✂️On Tuesday, a whistleblower came forward to document yet another episode demonstrating just how unfit Bove is for a federal judgeship. Erez Reuveni, a longtime DOJ lawyer who was dismissed earlier this year, has provided an account of a Mar. 14 meeting during which Bove allegedly advocated that the DOJ ignore court orders. During the meeting, Bove reportedly explained that Trump would invoke the Alien Enemies Act to speed up the deportation of a group of immigrants who had been detained and were set to be flown out of the country. Bove allegedly said the DOJ should consider telling the courts “fuck you” should judges seek to temporarily enjoin the administration’s moves. In Reuveni’s telling, Bove “stressed to all in attendance that the planes needed to take off no matter what.” Bove’s role in these deportations must be scrutinized by the Senate. He should and will be questioned at his hearing about every detail of these events.✂️

Another winner picked by the felon. I feel dirty. Where do these people come from???

Catfish are an extremely diverse group of ray-finned fish that get their nickname from their feline-looking whiskers, which are actually barbels that act as a defense mechanism (unlike other fish that have scales to defend them). Catfish have a large, flat head and elongated body. The entire body of a catfish is covered with taste buds that can detect chemicals in the water and respond to touch. The greatest concentration of sensory organs is located on the whiskers. Catfish develop up to four pairs of whiskers.

A parfait is a French dessert consisting of layers of ice cream, fruit, and syrup or liqueur, usually served in a tall glass. The word "parfait" means "perfect" in French, referring to the harmonious combination of flavors and textures in the dessert. A recycled video, but the greats never get old. Love this one. x x YouTube Video

The origins of the Bakewell Tart can be traced back to the picturesque town of Bakewell in Derbyshire. However, its history is often intertwined with that of the Bakewell Pudding, an older and distinct dessert. The tart, as we know it today, consists of a crisp shortcrust pastry shell, a layer of fruity jam, and a rich almond frangipane topping, often finished with flaked almonds or icing.
