YOU CAN REPOST IT AS COMMENT in the DIARY

WHEN YOU FIND SOMETHING in the DIARY that you LIKE

EVERY PERSON WHO COMMENTS WILL GET A CRITTER

THE PERSON who MAKES the FIRST COMMENT WILL GET TWO CRITTERS

(Or NOT As the CASE MAY BE)

YOU WILL FIND in the DIARIES a LOT of POLITICS

This NYT opinion — Antony Blinken: Trump’s Iran Strike Was a Mistake. I Hope It Succeeds — is an expert’s assessment of what happened, why, and what’s next. It’s so short and packed with information that I won’t quote it in disjointed scraps but leave you to read it all. If you have questions about the Iran bombing, read this.

===

Trump has declared a cease fire between Iran and Israel. Iran says it didn’t happen. Israel is still bombing. Is it Trump’s wishful thinking as he angles for that Nobel?

===

Republicans are marching in step on Iran about as well as the soldiers marching in the big birthday parade.

More ICE news: In the midst of the sweep quotas, ICE is believed to have arrested, detained, and/or deported as many as 674 US citizens.

x 🚨ICE is detaining a record 59,000 people, an increase of 10,000 people in a single month — with detention centers massively overcrowded and people being forced into squalid conditions as the admin pushes to hit Stephen Miller's dangerous quotas of 3,000 arrests a day. www.cbsnews.com/news/ice-rec...

While there have been some breaks in the Kilmar Abrego case, we can’t forget that there are still 250+ people in the CECOT prison in El Salvador, many believed to be innocent. A whistleblower claims they were told to ignore court orders to give the men justice.

x NEW: Read the whistleblower letter that proves Trump's DoJ intentionally defied court orders and lied to Judge Boasberg in the Alien Enemies Act Proclamation case. My latest: www.muellershewrote.com/p/new-eviden...

The good news is that the orders to return those in CECOT haven’t stopped coming, even if they fell off the front page with everything else going on.

x JUST IN: A federal appeals court has ordered the return of yet another man deported to El Salvador in violation of a court order. Jordin Melgar-Salmeron was deported on May 7, 30 minutes after the court ruled. Details TK s3.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

In even better news, people are fighting ICE successfully. United Farm Workers has some tips for those who employ immigrants.

x We are posting this placard at all of our offices and asking our union contract farms to post as well. We encourage our friends to put up similar placards at their business as immigration agents do not have the right to go on private property without permission.

These videos show two different women standing up to armed men and ordering ICE to go away empty handed. Take a look and see how it’s done. (I have to watch again. These women are awesome.)

x WATCH: “This is f*cking kidnapping! That’s not your badge… I do have a little bit of education… get the f*ck out of here, racial profiling is illegal…” A brave woman melts ice 🧊 💪🏽 www.instagram.com/reel/DLOWbEs...

(My limited high school Spanish makes out her first words as orders to the man standing there not to answer questions or say anything. Did I get that right?)

x Brownshirt ICE rolled up to my local Home Depot today and got the F-off treatment. Shoutout to this woman because this is exactly how it’s done. No badge, face covered = F*ck all the way off. 📌 It’s on us citizens to stand up for our vulnerable brothers and sisters.

The government’s turn toward Palantir continues. Why does it matter that four tech company leaders, including one from Palantir, were jumped past basic (and any other) training to be installed as lieutenant colonels? Because that rank qualifies them for access to sensitive information.

Look who has a big stake in Palantir stock.

===

Have you called your senators lately? Let them know you’re not over it.

But thanks to the senate parliamentarian, some parts of the bill are over — history — including sale of public lands.

x Public land selloff is OUT of the Big Beautiful Bill, as the parliamentarian rules it not compliant with the Byrd rule.

Several other sections also killed:

An encouraging turn in anti-vaccine news: Private experts are banding together to keep vaccines available and affordable and to keep the public accurately informed. Check out the Washington Post article linked.

===

It’s National Patch Day, sponsored by the Oliver Patch Project, that sends cheerful patches for kids with cancer to sew onto the jackets that they wear into treatment.

===

It’s National Take Back the Lunch Break Day. “Lunch break is 12:00-1:00,” my last employer told me on my first day, “although most employees find that they don’t need to stop for lunch.” That’s imaginary peer pressure! Go on, eat your lunch with pride!

It’s National Pralines Day! French sugar industrialist, Marshal du Plessis-Praslin (1598-1675), originally inspired the early pralines. At the Chateau of Vaux-le-Vicomte during the 17th century, du Plessis-Praslin created his first pralines, made with almonds and individually coated in caramelized sugar.
