The Chosen Season 5 with Poll [1]

The Chosen season 5 is now available on Amazon Prime. I’m bringing this up not to promote AP, if you don’t have it, just wait a little while longer for the episodes to show up on the free Chosen app.

For those not familiar, "The Chosen" is a historical drama series that portrays the life of Jesus and his followers in 1st-century Judaea and Galilee. While deeply rooted in the biblical narratives, it takes artistic liberties to flesh out characters and scenarios, making it a form of historical fiction.

Filming has been almost entirely fan funded through donations, but they have recently used limited theater releases and the AP deal among others. The sets and casts have gotten more sophisticated and they do translate to hundreds of languages which are at a net loss compared to English. It really is intended for all audiences to present the real Jesus and his ministry and teaching which includes character development of his disciples and followers. The narrative draws from all the gospels, but Matthew is probably the most represented because Matthew**, who artistically is on the spectrum is the ever present scribe, writing down what Jesus says. For me a picture is worth a thousand words and the series has done a good job of putting a parable or teaching in context in terms of the timeline of Jesus’ early, mid and late.

Taking Protesting to a Divine Level

This brings me to Season 5 episode 2, which I think is a must watch for everyone here as you get to see Jesus directly confront the theocracy and make not subtle hints that it will be replaced (the New Testament). To use my teenager’s language, Jesus seriously “Rage Baited” the religious authorities which encouraged them in their plot to have him killed.

What makes it a must watch though is the relevance to today, we have for all practical purposes a leadership that is a very heretical theocracy, I would go so far to say they have entirely replaced Jesus with power...just like all the other theocracies. My point is Jesus would confront the GOP the same way as he did the Scribes and Pharisees and the current admin would similarly find a way to get Him taken out by ICE (Romans), maybe not death, but a Salvadorian prison. After all he was foreign, not a roman citizen, a Jew, brown and obviously a woke lib with all his turning over the money changers tables, challenging authority, vying to terminate their authority, and caring about regular people, and the Loving your neighbor garbage.

** I know it’s not entirely accurate to imply the book of Matthew was written by the disciple Matthew but he was known as the note taker, just trying to head that debate off as I was mostly mentioning Matthew because it is the leading source in case people were unfamiliar with the series.
