Windy Redux

I’ve been writing KTK diaries, over 620 of them, since July of 2013. Sometimes the fount of inspiration slows, but some idea always arrives. Yesterday, triggered by a strong gust of wind, a whole diary plan coalesced in my mind. But something tugged at the edge of my memory, and when I checked, I realized I had already written that diary a year ago, using the same title, the same content, and even the same music. And it was exactly a year ago.

What other topics might folks be discussing at their kitchen table? Well, we’re at war, so that might come up. But the MSM seems to be covering that, for better or worse. Then there’s health care.

When one is young and healthy, health insurance is not the first thing on one’s mind. I remember the doctor who took care of me for weeks; actually saved my life, after a car accident. He sent us a bill for $140. When my son was born, there were some issues, and the March of Dimes filled in for what our insurance lacked. When I started with the postal service we enrolled in a program sponsored by my craft. This required we fill out reams of paperwork for coverage, and if there was a misplaced comma in the paperwork, it was returned.

Then we got Kaiser. Approximately 1/3 of Sonoma County uses Kaiser. We are fortunate to have two Kaiser locations plus clinics. And our satisfaction level is very high. As we age, of course, we have an ever increasing need for care, and that care has been excellent. We don’t have to fill out paperwork; they handle everything. And in case any KTK reader hasn’t heard by now, on Friday my urologist declared me cancer-free.

I’ve read a lot on DKos about the negatives of Medicare Advantage. So far not a problem with Kaiser. I know some of you live distant from your healthcare options. How is that working out? Are you satisfied with your available options? Are the costs prohibitive? Do you have your own doctor? Can You choose? Do you fear cancellation?

I realize these questions might be intrusive. If so skip to comments and discuss food. That’s where we always end up anyway, right?
