Top of the news is Trump’s bombing of Iran. What was his plan? Some in his administration say he didn’t have one.
x Trump’s attacks on Iran were based on vibes, not new intel, two administration officials tell Rolling Stone. “There is no intel,” one of the sources says. “The intelligence assessments have not really changed”

Having failed to learn the lessons of history, he doubted his staff and declared that Iran has weapons of mass destruction.
x Q: Your intelligence community says they have no evidence that Iran is building a nuke TRUMP: Then my intelligence community is wrong. Who said that? Q: You director of national intelligence Tulsi Gabbard TRUMP: She's wrong

A number of sources question whether at this stage Trump could possibly know whether the targets were, as he said, “obliterated.”
But — good news so far — the attack doesn’t appear to have released radiation.
An attack on Iran isn’t something that most Americans wanted. Conservatives are struggling with the “no more forever wars” president getting involved.
Even the Proud Boys say this isn’t what Americans voted for.
“If the United States gets directly involved in the Israel-Iran conflict, the voters that voted for Trump because there was a hope that Trump was America First can no longer support Trump,” the Proud Boys account posted to Telegram on Wednesday. “America First does not mean war for Israel. Donald Trump, focus on the health of our nation, period. We are crumbling. We are crippled with debt with no plan for a solution. Be the President you ran as.”
After DOGE and Hegseth, our readiness to handle the consequences is compromised. Did Trump realize there would be consequences or is he just counting on it that Iran, like a bully’s victim, will just cower and plead, “Don’t hurt me?”
x We’ve bombed Iran. And dismantled our joint terrorism task force. And sent a third of the FBI to help ICE. And gutted the National Security Council. And a drunk guy is in charge at the pentagon. And our intelligence allies probably won’t share intel with us. Because people couldn’t vote for a woman. — Mueller, She Wrote (@muellershewrote.com) June 21, 2025 at 6:24 PM
x NEW: The DHS has issued a heightened terror threat for Americans. Good thing we have that 22 year old former gardener in charge of counterterrorism and DHS is busy with mass deportation. www.dhs.gov/ntas/advisor...

People are looking toward the Strait of Hormuz for a potential Iranian retaliation. [Later] Iran has voted to close the strait. New York Post says that will affect 1/5 of world oil trade.
The president cannot legally take action like this on his own.
x The United States should not wage war against Iran. Donald Trump’s bombing of Iran is unconstitutional. Only Congress can declare war — and the Senate must vote immediately to prevent an another endless war. This is a horrific war of choice. — Elizabeth Warren (@warren.senate.gov) June 21, 2025 at 7:51 PM
Trump’s acts are often unconstitutional and Democrats often call for impeachment. Nothing comes of it because of the Republican majority. Will he have enough Republicans on his side this time or has he finally, as Iran insists, crossed a line?
The Atlantic has a good overview of where we stand after the attack.

Back to matters he’d like to distract us from.
x CATO: “New nonpublic data from ICE indicates the government is primarily detaining individuals with no criminal convictions of any kind… 93% had no violent convictions… 65% no criminal record at all…” @MarshaBlackburn

Those masks! Anybody could dress up as ICE.
x just saw a group of masked men stuffing masked ICE agents into an unmarked car, who were saying "we're ICE we're ICE!" but the abductors shouted to the crowd "no we're ICE!" no one knew who was ICE, so no one in the crowd said anything. — derek guy (@dieworkwear.bsky.social) June 21, 2025 at 11:36 AM
(I don’t imagine that anyone has actually done that — yet — but it’s a nice thought, isn’t it?)
This actually has happened. It makes me happy to see that there are still good Christians out there.
And here’s one to make you smile:
x In Bell, CA an entire community stood up against ICE, including the local police and the fire dept. The fire truck appears to not allow ICE vehicles to move forward nor remain and pushes forward to escort them out. A police car also helped with escorting. /

Is there any reason besides spite to do these things?
x Trump’s EPA is considering overturning a ban on cancer-causing asbestos. A top EPA official involved in the decision once lobbied for the American Chemistry Council – the group who sued to stop the ban. Trump is risking our health so corporations can line their pockets. — Robert Reich (@rbreich.bsky.social) June 20, 2025 at 12:03 PM

I’d trust financial expert Elizabeth Warren to be right about this:
x Instead of CUTTING Social Security benefits, Congress should INCREASE payments by $200 per month and extend the solvency of the Social Security program by 75 YEARS.
How? Make the wealthiest Americans pay a fairer share.
I’ve got a bill to get it done.

It’s the end of an era.
I listened in my dorm room in the 70s every Saturday night on WCCO radio. He’s still spinning the discs from his astonishing collection until October. You can hear Dr. Demento shows then and now on his streaming service.

The odd reason that more people get carsick in electric cars.
Riders have a longer history with gas cars and so have had more time to adapt to their specific cues. If a person has spent most of their life driving a combustion engine car, their brain anticipates acceleration after the rev of the engine, a warning that they are about to experience a change in speed. In a battery-powered car, the electric motor makes no such noises. “If we are accustomed to traveling in non-EVs, we are used to understanding the car’s motion based on signals such as engine revs, engine vibrations, torque, etc. Yet, traveling in an EV for the first time is a new motion environment for the brain, which needs adaptation,” Emond explains. In 10 years the UK proposes to give every newborn whole genome sequencing.
All new parents are now offered a blood spot test for their babies, normally when the child is five days old, to check whether they have any of nine rare but serious conditions. A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: “Our 10-year health plan will be published soon and will set out details for a range of initiatives to advance the NHS and make it fit for the future.” In October, the NHS in England announced it was to screen 100,000 newborn babies for more than 200 genetic conditions in a world-first scheme aimed at bolstering early diagnosis and treatment. Cancer may be detectable much sooner with blood tests.
It’s possible to spot tumor DNA more than three years before a person is diagnosed with cancer, researchers report May 22 in Cancer Discovery. “We were shocked that we could find DNA,” says Yuxuan Wang, an oncologist and cancer researcher at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. The findings suggest that hunting for these telltale traces using highly sensitive and accurate technology could be a powerful tool in early cancer screening efforts. It could one day help doctors detect cancers before any other signs or symptoms of the disease appear, she says. (Science News)

Our craving for fast fashion puts a surprising burden on the planet. Scientific American explains in an article on the Hudson Valley Textile Project, an effort to reduce the damage. Take a look at the numbers, what’s being done, and what you can do.
Millions of low-paid garment workers around the world endure unsafe working conditions to churn out huge amounts of clothing and textiles year after year. The pull on the planet’s natural resources is immense: Annual textile production uses up enough water to fill at least 37 million Olympic-size swimming pools. Cotton agriculture alone uses 2.1 percent of the world’s arable land. And because roughly 60 percent of global textiles now contain plastic derived from fossil fuels, it is estimated that more than a third of the microplastics in the oceans today were shed from clothing. The fashion industry is also responsible for up to 10 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions—more than the aviation and shipping industries combined. If apparel consumption continues to grow at its current rate, by 2050 the industry will be using more than one quarter of the world’s carbon budget. The problem becomes even worse when you consider that most clothes make a quick trip to the landfill, where they’ll emit greenhouse gases such as methane. (Scientific American)
