Daily Bucket: Watson Mill Bridge State Park, Georgia [1]

We seem to have a shortage of writers for Daily Buckets, and I’ve been guilty of not producing many of them lately. I have a folder with pictures from several of the Georgia state parks. Those of you who live far from Georgia might never see these sights, so I’ll use them as conversation starters for a few buckets.

Watson Mill Bridge State Park is located in the northeastern portion of the state, some 20 miles east of Athens. Its feature attraction is a covered bridge, the longest in the state that is still in use. A marker at one end of the bridge gives some history.

“Built by W W King in 1885, Watson Mill Bridge is Georgia’s longest existing covered bridge. Of the town lattice type, it has four spans and is 236 feet long. Covered primarily to protect the structural timbers, the bridge served the local traffic, the workers of the now missing grist mill and saw mill, and even for picnics and square dances. The covered bridge was restored in 1973 by the Georgia Department of Transportation to serve as a nucleus for the surrounding state park.”

THE DAILY BUCKET IS A NATURE REFUGE. WE AMICABLY DISCUSS ANIMALS, WEATHER, CLIMATE, SOIL, PLANTS, WATERS AND NOTE LIFE’S PATTERNS. WE INVITE YOU TO NOTE WHAT YOU ARE SEEING AROUND YOU IN YOUR OWN PART OF THE WORLD, AND TO SHARE YOUR OBSERVATIONS IN THE COMMENTS BELOW. FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE PURPOSE AND HISTORY OF THE DAILY BUCKET FEATURE, CHECK OUT THIS DIARY: DAILY BUCKET PHENOLOGY: 11 YEARS OF RECORDING EARTH'S VITAL SIGNS IN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS

Here are views of the bridge from different angles, outside and inside.

I’m currently using this pic as the wallpaper on my phone.

Black walnut, no cicadas.

Okay folks, that’s about all the information I have, so I’ll turn things over to you.
