As N.Y.C. Mayoral Primary Nears, Money Talks as Mamdani Walks If New York’s Democratic primary for mayor was to be decided by whoever had the most money and energy, Zohran Mamdani would be at a cash disadvantage but with a surplus on vigor. He began Friday by asking the city’s Campaign Finance Board to give him a waiver to exceed the almost $8 million spending cap for the primary — hoping to come closer to leveling the huge spending advantage of his chief rival, former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo. Fix the City, a super PAC supporting Mr. Cuomo, has raised more than $24 million, with much of it fueling an expensive attack ad campaign against Mr. Mamdani, a Queens assemblyman and democratic socialist. www.nytimes.com/...

Ro Khanna: Democrats lost 2024 because they became the ‘party of war,’ overlooked inflation Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) blamed the Democratic Party’s poor performance in the 2024 election on unpopular positions on foreign policy and ineffective messaging on inflation in an interview with POLITICO. Khanna said in an interview on “The Conversation” with Dasha Burns that Democrats became “the party of war” by standing with Israel amid the country’s ongoing war in Gaza. “I think the Gaza situation really hurt us with a lot of young people, certainly in Wisconsin and Michigan,” Khanna told POLITICO. “We would have won those two states, but for that.” www.politico.com/...

The Radical DSA and the New York City Mayor's Race (Third Way) Next week, New York City Democrats will choose their nominee in the race for mayor. While we take no position on who Democrats should vote for, we are deeply alarmed by one of the leading candidates: Zohran Mamdani. Leaving aside Mamdani’s positions that some believe border on antisemitism, it is his proud affiliation with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) that worries us most. www.thirdway.org/...

Deep divisions in NYC over Israel and Gaza prove thorny political ground for Cuomo, Mamdani Zohran Mamdani stepped into a simmering political quagmire earlier this week when he was asked on a podcast about a term seen as deeply offensive by many Jews — the word “intifada.” Mamdani explained during the interview with The Bulwark Tuesday that pro-Palestine protest chants like “globalize the intifada,” to him signify a call for Palestinian human rights. He noted the word has been used by the U.S. Holocaust Museum when translating into Arabic the history of a Jewish uprising against the Nazis. It might seem a perplexing position: For decades, anyone with hopes of leading New York City, which has the largest Jewish population outside of Israel, has seen strong support of Israel as a given. www.nydailynews.com/...
