All Politics is Local [1]

I’m sure all who read Kos understand how horrid this Republican spending bill is. One of many horrid components is that it slashes funding to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), a federal agency supporting libraries and museums, from $313M to $6M. These are funds libraries use to provide programming and outreach to local folks, and are very popular. If this were to be approved, libraries and museums will be forced to cut services. All so billionaires and corporations can get wealthier, feed that money back to their politicos, and reap even more benefits.

Our county Democrat committee is holding a fundraiser in hopes of bringing this to the attention of people. In this red area, I doubt many understand how heinous this spending bill is. We’re going to be dropping flyers in the bags of food with CBO bullet points, in effort to educate. These cuts to social services won’t be matched by state/county, so services to those most in need will drop. We’ve had fundraisers for teachers, cops, firemen, food pantries, rehab center, etc.. We help the people who help the people. We have to do SOMETHING. We’re ALL in this together. Let’s get to work!
