Trump poised to enter Israel-Iran conflict with no real plan [1]

President Donald J Trump is is poised to repeat prior administrations’ failures of reasoning in the Middle East as he insists, over the analysis of his intelligence community, that Iran is on the verge of producing weapons of mass destruction.

He has admonished Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard for presenting the conclusions of her staff that Iran poses no imminent nuclear threat. He prefers instead to listen to his own council, informed by Israel, a country with their own agenda.

The last time we saw this very scene play out was in 2003 when Vice President Dick Cheney discounted CIA analysis confirming that Iraq was not developing any weapons of mass destruction. He buried this information and promoted the bogus narrative that Iraq should be invaded in the interests of world peace.

The invasion of Iraq resulted in a power vacuum and instability throughout the region. This of course led to years of turbulence in the Middle East indirectly enabling the rise of ISIS and the displacement of millions of people.

Now Trump is apparently going to flip a coin to determine if it will be deja vu all over again, denying expert analysis and proceeding with world changing moves on a whim. Disarming Iran might be a good thing to do for other reasons, but not based solely on a false tale of imminent nuclear danger.

Factions in Trump’s own circle back entering the war between Israel and Iran and likely consider the WMD narrative a good cover story justifying whatever outcomes may ensue. According to Fox News, Lindsay Graham is agitating for intervention in the Israel-Iran conflict.

Other of his strong supporters feel their principle of non involvement in foreign affairs is about to be betrayed. Both Tucker Carlson and Steve Bannon have hammered Fox News for pushing false narratives in support of US involvement.

Its delightful to enjoy dissension in the ranks of the faithful of MAGA Land. But one can’t help but wish that the argument over a play as big as wading waist deep into a major, decades old rivalry would pay some attention to real facts. Fat chance there. With a ruling party devoted to their own phony vision of the world, there is scant likelihood of that.

For the rest of us it is sit and watch the circus that we got for an administration when we elected a clown to run the country.

One thing for certain is that which ever way he goes, he will not have a plan beyond the first move. That is the hallmark of his governing style. He is the master of one dimensional chess.
