Open Letter to My Senators [1]

Here is a letter I’ve e-mailed to my Republican senators. I do realize this is just a starter set of issues. Feel free to add or otherwise edit as you wish if you would like to use.

Dear Senator ...

Please do not:

Extend and/or add to the tax breaks for the rich and hyper-rich. This would be a regressive measure, tilting the table even farther in favor of the very wealthy and comparatively away from the poor and middle classes.

Increase the national debt and future deficits. Doing so would require more future payments in interest to pay for present excesses, and put our economy in greater danger of reaching a breaking point.

Allow cuts to Medicaid and/or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Our safety net should be expanded until poverty and child hunger are eliminated.

Reduce funding of FEMA, HHS, CDC, OSHA and other agencies important to our country’s health and safety.

Increase our military spending. Our military budget is already over-sized and President Trump pledged not to involve us in further wars unless in actual defense of our country. Let’s take him at his word on this.

Cut tax breaks for clean energy production and use until all our energy needs are met with environmental safety. The climate crisis is real and increasingly disastrous.

Pay for increased migrant facilities. These should not be needed it the Administration would limit apprehensions to actual serious criminals as polls indicate the public desires. Undocumented immigrants are being unfairly and inaccurately stereotyped as threats instead of the assets they are to our country.

I would consider you a true hero if you were to help steer the budget bill away from the above abuses or to vote against a bill that includes them.
