Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke was elected to Congress from New Yok's 11th Congressional District in 2006, representing that district until 2013, until redistricting. Since 2013, Congresswoman Clarke has represented New York's 9th Congressional District (part of which is the district represented by Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm). She is one of 5 Black Members of Congress representing New York (and of 15 ever) and is the current Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus. The child of Jamaican immigrants, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke, is a strong advocate for the Caribbean Community, co-Chairing the Congressional Caribbean Caucus.

During her tenure in Congress, Rep. Clarke has been the primary sponsor of 5 bills enacted into law, and the primary sponsor of 2 bills, so far, in the 119th Congress. Congresswoman Yvette Clarke serves on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, as Ranking Member of the Oversight and Investigations, and member of the Commerce, Manufacturing, ad Trade and Communications and Technology subcommittees of that committee.

Congresswoman Clarke was brilliant and forceful in her remarks in the Tri-Caucus Leaders’ (Congressional Black Caucus, Congressional Hispanic Caucus and Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus) press conference held on June 10th, criticizing the mfg’s deployment of troops amid anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles.

Congresswoman Yvette Clarke makes regular appearance on both local and national TV.

Here are a couple of interviews from June 9th.

On local CBS news:

On CNN:

True to her Caribbean roots, here’s Congresswoman Clarke honoring Caribbean Heritage Month on June 10th.

Finally, here’s an episode of Congressman Troy A. Carter, Sr’s podcast, “What Makes America Tick?”, from May 30th, featuring Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke. (The quote in this story’s title is from this interview).

Thursday (Jun12):

Press conferences:

x I was arrested in in the Capitol Rotunda while protesting health care cuts as a pastor long before I came to the Senate.

Now as a Senator, I am engaged in the same moral struggle.

I won’t stop praying, fighting, and working to stop these cuts and defeat this Big Ugly Bill. pic.twitter.com/czILK40yLf — Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (@SenatorWarnock) June 12, 2025

There were18 meetings, 13in the House and 5 in the Senate.

The Senate Committee on Finance held a “hearing to examine the President’s proposed budget request for fiscal year 2026 for the Department of Treasury and tax reform”.

Senator Raphael Warnock 2:00:16

The House Ways and Means Work and Welfare Subcommittee held a hearing entitled, “Aging Out is Not a Plan: Reimagining Futures for Foster Youth”.

x At today’s Ways and Means Work and Welfare Subcommittee hearing, my constituent, Ramond Nelson, talked about his lived experience in the foster care system and with community building programs like Foster Club. Listen below to his testimony👇🏾 — Congressman Dwight Evans (@repdwightevans.bsky.social) 2025-06-12T22:01:40.428Z

x Hearing Ramond’s story today was incredibly inspiring to me and everyone listening, and I’m proud to represent him in Congress! We must continue to support and uplift former & current foster youth and hear their stories so that we can learn how to improve this important system. — Congressman Dwight Evans (@repdwightevans.bsky.social) 2025-06-12T22:01:40.429Z

Ranking Member Danny Davis 12:47; Rep. Dwight Evans 19:55; Ranking Member Danny Davis 49:01; Rep. Gwen Moore 59:25; Rep. Dwight Evans 1:23:00: Rep. Steven Horsford 1:32:52

x ICE raids on schools are cruelly designed to interfere with kids’ education.@EleanorNorton & @GovPritzker dive deep on how Trump’s cruel policies are harming Illinois children. pic.twitter.com/JNwkRDMM8h — Oversight Dems (@OversightDems) June 12, 2025

x What we are seeing today, we have seen before. @repkweisimfume.bsky.social draws on his own experiences to stand up to the inhumane policies of the Trump Administration. — Oversight Dems (@oversightdemocrats.house.gov) 2025-06-12T15:51:34.248Z

x Today, I called out Trump’s reckless and lawless immigration agenda.

This isn’t about public safety—it’s about stoking fear, trampling due process, and unleashing ICE on immigrant communities with no accountability. pic.twitter.com/K097cjaPyi — Rep. Shontel Brown (@RepShontelBrown) June 12, 2025

x Let’s be clear: it’s Trump’s policies and abuse of power that have instigated and escalated the situation in Los Angeles. It’s his overzealous ICE agents. His deployment of the National Guard and Marines on the American people. Protesting a fascist regime is a First Amendment right. — Rep. Summer Lee (@repsummerlee.bsky.social) 2025-06-12T22:29:56.738Z

x I stand against racism, antisemitism, and all forms of hate AND weaponizing ICE to terrorize immigrants. This is where I stand—regardless of what language my GOP colleagues are throwing into resolutions to corner Democrats. 🧵 — Congressman Wesley Bell (@repwesleybellmo.bsky.social) 2025-06-12T21:24:54.598Z

x During a House Oversight Committee hearing today, Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) says calls to arrest California Gov. Gavin Newsom are not just empty threats because Trump knows his biggest opposition is Democratic officials. — Democracy Docket (@democracydocket.com) 2025-06-12T17:18:31.999Z

x They’re silent on white supremacist violence—

but loud when it comes to demonizing immigrants.

They skip past the real threats, then cry “law and order” while breaking the law themselves.

And due process? Only matters when it’s someone they like.

But that’s not how this works.… pic.twitter.com/agVXW5BPRX — Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (@RepJasmine) June 13, 2025

House floor speeches:

x I spoke on the House floor to oppose Trump's rescissions request which includes an $8.2 billion cut to USAID. Many North Carolinians have lost their jobs from this administration’s attacks on USAID, and this cut would further devastate an agency that is vital to our economy and saves lives. — Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (@foushee.house.gov) 2025-06-12T17:55:06.441Z

The Recissions Act passed (214/212/6), all Dems (and 4 R’s) voting no except for 4 Dems Not Voting, including CBC Member Joyce Beatty.

Senate floor speeches:

x Senator Alex Padilla was fulfilling his Congressional oversight duties when he was thrown to the ground and handcuffed. This is no isolated instance; this is a pattern of behavior by the Trump administration. There is simply no justification for this abuse of authority. — Sen. Cory Booker (@booker.senate.gov) 2025-06-12T19:32:18.030Z

x I am enraged by how Senator Padilla was treated.

He was taken to the ground and handcuffed.

They claimed not to know him. Any reasonable person knows that is a full-on lie.

If this doesn't cause every person under the sound of my voice to shudder, I don't know what to say. pic.twitter.com/MEQD9S8wS9 — Senator Angela Alsobrooks (@Sen_Alsobrooks) June 12, 2025

x Trump’s Department of Homeland Security handcuffed @SenAlexPadilla for simply doing his job on behalf of his constituents.

“If we don’t have the ability as senators and congresspeople, what does that mean for all of the citizens of this country?”

—@SenLBR pic.twitter.com/hLnyVQ71Fx — Senate Democrats (@SenateDems) June 12, 2025

CBC Members strongly condemned the outrageous treatment of Senator Padilla at Noem’s press conference.

x The egregious and excessive force used against Senator Alex Padilla today was something out of a totalitarian regime. This should NEVER happen in America. I joined the @hispaniccaucus.bsky.social in walking to Senator Thune's office to demand his condemnation of this outrageous assault. — Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke (@repyvetteclarke.bsky.social) 2025-06-12T22:31:44.370Z

x My House Democratic colleagues are walking to the Senate right now to demand answers after @padilla.senate.gov was wrongfully handcuffed and detained. — Congresswoman Robin Kelly (@robinkelly.house.gov) 2025-06-12T20:56:40.965Z

x When I was arrested for protesting during civil rights activities, I was never scared.

I can't say that about what's happening today.

Arresting a U.S. Senator for protesting Trump's regime—if it can happen to @SenAlexPadilla, it can happen to anyone. pic.twitter.com/pwNS0d2JES — James E. Clyburn (@RepJamesClyburn) June 12, 2025

x This is outrageous.

If this is how the Trump Administration treats a U.S. Senator in plain view, imagine how they treat ordinary Americans behind closed doors.

The Trump Administration is out of control and must be held accountable. https://t.co/A3hudNnsVO — The Black Caucus (@TheBlackCaucus) June 12, 2025

Friday (Jun 13):

Media appearances:

x What happened yesterday to Senator Padilla is a dangerous backslide for American Democracy. If this is what the Trump Administration is willing to do to a U.S. Senator with cameras rolling — they’re unafraid to do it to our mothers, our brothers, and our children when the cameras are off. — Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (@replsimon.bsky.social) 2025-06-13T21:56:39.623Z

x Colorado's public lands are NOT for sale. We must defeat this reckless proposal. — Rep. Joe Neguse (@neguse.house.gov) 2025-06-18T14:13:42.436Z

x While Judge Breyer's verdict in favor of California has been stayed for now, the law is clear: Trump's made-for-TV takeover of the California National Guard is not legal.
