Whiteness Wednesdays: Substitute Teacher Edition [1]

Welcome to Whiteness Wednesdays.

I’ve been dealing with some pretty nasty illness for the last couple weeks. I’m finally feeling better, but this destroyed my ability to get any writing or research done.

In lieu of that, our guest lecture will be John Oliver, giving a very enlightening piece on the juvenile criminal justice system.

Take notes: the school to prison pipeline and the law of unintended consequences both make appearances here, though John doesn’t point either out explicitly. The below segment is an excellent introduction to the problem with criminalizing children (particularly children of color).

Hopefully, I’ll stay feeling healthy and can be back to our regular lectures next week:
