Good morning, Newdists! Got this idea last week, and saved it, just to share here. We need all the fun we can get, so grab a cuppa and something nice, and join us for a bit.
All are welcome to join the fun, the silliness, the conversations. If you don’t know...just ask! Some things really do require a bit of explanation. We do not post photos of snakes, creepy crawlies, or any photo depicting harm to humans or animals. We, as a group, have declared a moratorium on photos of Trump. We’ve seen enough, heard enough. This is a Trump-Free Zone! There will be a few surprises along the way, all good ones, we hope. We are here to keep building the Daily Kos Community. We post Mon-Sun at 10:30 a.m. Eastern. Pie fights will be met with outrageous ridicule and insults. Trolls will be incinerated and served at the next group BBQ. As briquettes.
We all know (if not, where have you been?? lol) that I adore classic cartoons. Most of us grew up on many of the same toons, but the best years, in my mind, are the WB Merrie Melody cartoons, and the ones from the late 1930s through the mid 1960s are the very best!
The backgrounds in those vintage toons are better than a lot of the action drawings in later toons. It is amazing!
Turns out, there is one cartoon that is ranked #1 and for once, I agree witht he judges.
It is a personal favourite.
I share it here:
Chuck Jones was one of the best of the ealy toon animators and directors.
From Wiki, the red highlights are links to other articles:
Jones started his career in 1933 alongside Tex Avery, Friz Freleng, Bob Clampett, and Robert McKimson at the Leon Schlesinger Production's Termite Terrace studio, the studio that made Warner Brothers cartoons, where they created and developed the Looney Tunes characters.
During World War II, Jones worked closely with Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, to create the Private Snafu series of Army educational cartoons (the character was created by director Frank Capra). Jones later collaborated with Seuss on animated adaptations of Seuss' books, including How the Grinch Stole Christmas! in 1966.
A side note. He was originally from Seattle….I hear that’s not far from Kurt Cobainland! ;)
In Jerry Beck's 1994 book The 50 Greatest Cartoons, a group of animation professionals ranked What's Opera, Doc? (1957) as the greatest cartoon of all time, with ten of the entries being directed by Jones including Duck Amuck (1953), Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century (1953), One Froggy Evening (1955), Rabbit of Seville (1950), and Rabbit Seasoning (1952).[3]
Of course he did two of my other favourites!
This one always cracks me up….
,
Found this….the first one is Rabbit Seasoning from 1952:
Jones's final Looney Tunes cartoon was From Hare to Eternity (1997), which starred Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam , with Greg Burson voicing Bugs. The cartoon was dedicated to Friz Freleng , who had died in 1995.
Nope! They sure don’t make ‘em like this anymore….but we get to watch them so we’re happy!!
What cartoons do you still watch? Which ones do you miss?
What’s on your mind this morning?
