Government should be the backstop for when the market fails to deliver [1]

Advocates of free markets go too far when they argue that free markets are a panacea solving all economic problems.

When the labor market fails to provide good paying jobs for all people who want to work the government should intervene.

When workers are laid off government should intervene to help them find new jobs and support them during unemployment.

Farming is a highly uncertain business — supplying an absolutely essential product -— and government intervention has routinely supported farmers to tide them over when too much or too little is grown.
