Trump's Latest Purge: Fire the Experts, Let the World Burn [1]

Donald Trump is once again proving that when it comes to foreign aid, facts, expertise, and human lives are secondary to his personal vendettas. In his ongoing war against USAID, the administration has fired at least nine career experts who were responsible for keeping what remains of America’s humanitarian assistance functioning. These are not political appointees. They are not activists. They are longtime civil servants, many of whom have spent their entire careers overseeing complex aid programs that feed starving children, distribute HIV medication, and help stabilize fragile regions.
Why were they fired? Because they told the truth. Because they raised concerns that cutting foreign aid would destabilize allies, create power vacuums for China and Russia to fill, and result in massive human suffering. And in Trump’s world, reality is disloyalty.
Senator Marco Rubio, playing his usual role as Trump’s useful idiot, has backed this witch hunt. He’s accused these USAID staff of being part of some nebulous "resistance," because apparently caring about starving children now qualifies as subversion. Let’s be clear about what is happening: professionals who have dedicated their lives to America’s global leadership are being purged for refusing to parrot Trump’s unhinged propaganda.
Meanwhile, actual aid programs continue to collapse. Clinics across Africa and Asia are shuttering. HIV medication pipelines are drying up. Children are dying. But none of that matters to Trump and his enablers. All that matters is consolidating power, rewarding loyalists, and tearing down every part of the postwar order that once made America a global leader.
This isn’t about saving money. Foreign aid accounts for less than one percent of the federal budget. What Trump is really after is dismantling the idea that America has any responsibility to anyone beyond its borders. It’s isolationism wrapped in cruelty, packaged for an angry base that cheers whenever the world burns.
Once again, the so-called party of national security is gutting America’s most effective soft power tools. Once again, the party of Christian values is indifferent as global food programs for the poor collapse. Once again, the party that claims to love America is doing everything possible to destroy its global standing.
The world remembers who we were after World War II. The nation that fed Europe through the Marshall Plan. The nation that built NATO. The nation that helped create a rules-based order where the strong were bound by law. Trump wants to erase all of that. And unless we fight back, he might succeed.
