Welcome to Morning Open Thread, a daily post with a MOTley crew of hosts, who choose the topic for the daily posting. We support our community, invite and share ideas, and encourage thoughtful, respectful dialogue in an open forum.

Note: I use a ‘theme’ for my diaries, in an attempt to keep my writings on a cohesive path while I compose the diaries. It is also fun to see comments that fit within that theme. However, here in MOTland, all topics are welcome, it is an open thread. There are no demerits for being so-called ‘off-topic’. Thanks!

"Fire Lake" is a song written and recorded by the American musical artist Bob Seger. The song had been partly written years before, in 1971, and was finally finished in 1979 and released in 1980 on Seger's album Against The Wind.

Billboard described "Fire Lake" as an "excellent song [that] is paced by acoustic guitar which lends a folk flavor" and the lyrics as describing "the subversion of small-town life”. Three of the Eagles provided the backing vocals for this track: Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Timothy Schmit.

"Lake of Fire" is a song by the American alternative rock band the Meat Puppets.

The song gained widespread exposure when it was covered by American rock band Nirvana during their MTV Unplugged appearance in November 1993.

====================

"Indian Lake" is a song recorded by the pop band The Cowsills, and included on their 1968 album Captain Sad and His Ship of Fools (MGM E/SE-4554)

The single eventually sold over 1 million copies, and was later licensed for use in commercials for the Dodge Charger.

But before the music, a bit of a side journey to Minnesota’s famous Lake Wobegon, spoken fondly about by Garrison Keillor. “where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average."

And, wait there’s more! Minnesota has a motto ‘Land Of 10,000 Lakes’, but there are actually 11,842 of them! link: MN lakes

And one more: How were the Great Lakes formed?

Answer: by melting glaciers. Wiki: Great Lakes

The Great Lakes began to form at the end of the Last Glacial period around 14,000 years ago, as retreating ice sheets exposed the basins they had carved into the land, which then filled with meltwater
