YOU CAN REPOST IT AS COMMENT in the DIARY

WHEN YOU FIND SOMETHING in the DIARY that you LIKE

EVERY PERSON WHO COMMENTS WILL GET A CRITTER

THE PERSON who MAKES the FIRST COMMENT WILL GET TWO CRITTERS

(Or NOT As the CASE MAY BE)

YOU WILL FIND in the DIARIES a LOT of POLITICS

A gentle administrative note that we could use more volunteers, especially for critter wrangling, but diarists, too. There are resources available if one asks in the mornings.

When Thomas Massie is the voice of reason..?

At least he's not the only one. Oh wait, he is - among rethugs anyway.

Was she lying then, or just stoopid?

I guess it doesn't matter anyway?

x Q: "Tulsi Gabbard testified in March that the intelligence community said Iran wasn't building a nuclear weapon." Trump: "I don't care what she said. I think they were very close to having one."

Same for Bibi. Although I don't think he's stoopid.

x Seems worth at least remembering that Netanyahu has been making claims about Iran getting nukes for 35 years — and helped perpetuate the lie that took us into Iraq. “Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it” - George Santayana theintercept.com/2015/03/02/b...

I believe Ron over "Leave It."

x In other words, it was a total failure and Trump is bailing because as a negotiator he is total dog shit despite the fact that his cultists think otherwise, so he will get back to the new war he’s gotten us into.

I missed this last night, but the "big beautiful deal" he's showing off is nothing but blank pages. What a maroon!

x Look, everyone, including Trump, can have butterfingers, it happens. But let’s be honest, if Biden had done this (as with the tripping or walking the wrong way or whatever) there would have been multiple news stories and calls for medical examinations. It’s the double standard that annoys me

x This sounds like an idiot trying to make Iran think there’s about to be a nuclear strike on Tehran.

I wonder if this has anything to do with it?

x This is serious, rigorous analysis and it should change the way the media has been covering these protests. These were, in the aggregate, *massive.*

From the article. "No Kings Day" protests turn out millions, rebuking Trump. www.gelliottmorris.com/…

✂️ While no one can produce official data on the number of people attending yesterday’s protests (that would require some sort of controlled entry and check-in system), we do have nearly official counts of the number of protests being held. We have that information for yesterday, and we also have it for every day since January 1, 2017. That’s thanks to data gathered and published regularly by the Crowd Counting Consortium, a joint project of Harvard Kennedy School and the University of Connecticut. According to the CCC, there have been over 15,000 political protests since Donald Trump’s second inauguration this January. Over the same period in 2017, during Trump’s first term, there were barely over 5,000 protests.

It's heavy on numbers, but an informative read.

I got no words.

x In 2016 MN Police killed a Black man named Philando Castile despite him disclosing he had a legal firearm. Yesterday MN Police released a white woman named Jenny Boelter despite her car full of cash, firearms, & passports hours after her husband mass murdered people & was on the run from police. — Qasim Rashid, Esq. (@qasimrashid.com) June 16, 2025 at 4:59 PM

x as someone prone to directly confronting people for stuff they say online, that from lee is the face of someone who did not expect to be confronted for something he said online

[image or embed] — jamelle (@jamellebouie.net) June 16, 2025 at 3:28 PM

What a dick.

x "I could be nice but..." I think this is so emblematic of Trump's personality. Cruelty, meanness and pettiness are his default positions. This is not a good disposition for any human, let alone leader to have.

Important words from Joyce Vance

x We absolutely must not forget what this administration did to Senator Padilla, because it tells us what they are willing to do to us.

Because it's happening elsewhere. BREAKING | Comptroller Brad Lander arrested at ICE court hearing. www.amny.com/...

City Comptroller Brad Lander was arrested and accosted by masked federal agents at immigration court in Lower Manhattan. The city’s elected financial watchdog, and a Democratic candidate for mayor, appeared at 26 Federal Plaza on the morning of June 17 to observe immigration hearings involving individuals marked for potential deportation. Lander’s arrest, which amNewYork observed, occurred as the comptroller and his staff walked arm-in-arm with an immigrant whom federal agents — representing ICE, the FBI and the Treasury Department, each of whom wearing masks to conceal their faces — moved to seize after a court hearing. Moments earlier, the immigrant had their case dismissed pending appeal. ✂️ “I will let go if you show me a judicial warrant,” he repeated. “I would like to see the warrant, and then I will let go.” Seconds later, one of the officers said, “Take him in.” The agents then forcibly removed Lander, pushed him against the wall and cuffed him. “You don’t have the authority to arrest US citizens,” Lander said. “I’m not obstructing, I am standing right here in the hallway. … You don’t have the authority to arrest US citizens asking for a judicial warrant.”

This is a breaking story and I'll keep an eye out for updates.

There's video:

x These ICE goons are completely out of control. Arresting US Citizens, elected officials, and terrorizing our communities. Comptroller Lander was simply asking for the warrant.

This is a really good and scary reminder:

x That’s a tough question. Resisting masked armed thugs in any circumstance can get you beaten or killed by the armed thugs. If the masked armed thugs are agents of the U.S. government it will also get you prosecuted for “assault on a federal officer” or “resisting arrest.”

Click the flutter to read the whole thread, but I found this useful tip in the replies.:

x NEW: New York Attorney General Letitia James on the arrest of NYC mayoral candidate and comptroller Brad Lander. “This is profoundly unacceptable. Arresting Comptroller Lander for the simple act of standing up for immigrants and their civil rights is a shocking abuse of power.”

Another worthless, lying, grifting POS of FIDJT'S only the best people. Trump’s FAA pick has claimed ‘commercial’ pilot license he doesn’t have. www.politico.com/…

President Donald Trump’s nominee to head the Federal Aviation Administration long described himself in his official biography as being certified to fly aircraft commercially — but records examined by POLITICO show that he does not hold any commercial license. Bryan Bedford’s biography at Republic Airways, the regional airline where he has been CEO since 1999, said until Thursday that he “holds commercial, multi-engine and instrument ratings.” (By Friday, after POLITICO’s inquiries, the word “commercial” had been removed.) The FAA registry that houses data on pilot’s licenses does not list any such commercial credentials for Bedford. ✂️ "You cannot get a commercial rating without having gone through and taken those tests,” Pleasance said after being asked to comment on the pilot licensing process and testing criteria. He was not addressing any specific questions regarding Bedford’s credentials. Another aviation expert familiar with the licensing process, granted anonymity to speak candidly about a sensitive topic, said that “if you haven’t successfully gone through all of that, no one should claim to have a certain rating — because they don’t have it.” “It’s like saying you are a medical doctor but you haven’t finished medical school,” said the expert.

Then there's this guy.

x Sergio Gor, Director of WH Personnel, has STILL not turned in paperwork for his background check. He claims he is from Malta but they have no records of him being born there, and he refuses to say what country he is from. nypost.com/2025/06/17/u...

[image or embed] — Ron Filipkowski (@ronfilipkowski.bsky.social) June 17, 2025 at 9:20 AM

From the New York Post. Powerful Trump aide who’s in charge of vetting thousands of staffers still hasn’t been fully vetted himself: sources. nypost.com/…

But three administration insiders told The Post that the vetter-in-chief has not turned in his Standard Form 86, or SF-86 — a more than 100-page set of questions required for officials who need security clearances. Among the questions applicants must answer under threat of criminal penalties is where they were born and whether they have any foreign connections. Gor claims to be from the island country of Malta, though an official there could not confirm his birthplace when provided his exact birthday, saying: “No acts are registered with the provided details.”

I cannot confirm this, but some people are saying,

From the flutter comments:

x From the article: "Gor’s swift rise from an aide to Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) during Trump’s first term He quickly earned enough to afford a seven-bedroom, lagoon-front mansion just north of Palm Beach in 2022 — a short drive from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club." — LucilleBluth1.5 (@lbluth.bsky.social) June 17, 2025 at 9:31 AM

Rethugs keeping it classy. Next time one of them says anything about "backing the blue," tell them to STFU. Police officers file civil lawsuit seeking court order to hang Jan. 6 plaque at U.S. Capitol. www.cbsnews.com/…

Two police officers who defended the Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021 attack filed a federal civil lawsuit, asking a judge to order the hanging of a plaque to honor police heroes who protected the Capitol, lawmakers and staff from rioters. The lawsuit cites a 2022 law signed by President Biden that required the honorary plaque be hung by March 2023. The plaque has been completed and in storage since at least last year, but GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson has not committed to installing it at the Capitol. ✂️ The lawsuit argues the failure to hang the plaque violates the Equal Protection clause of the Constitution. It also contends the Aarchitect of the Capitol, who helps manage the facilities and grounds of the Capitol, has failed to complete a required duty under the 2022 law. "There seems to be no indication that congressional leadership is going to install this without judicial intervention," said attorney Brendan Ballou, who has helped with crafting the lawsuit.. Ballou, a former Justice Department prosecutor who handled Jan. 6 criminal cases and resigned from the agency earlier this year, also told CBS News, "Congress was required by law to install this plaque to honor the officers that defended the Capitol and those inside on Jan. 6. They have not done so, and they have not done so two years past the legal deadline." In the civil lawsuit, the officers argue, "While Congress has installed a memorial to other officers who died in a different tragedy, it has not installed the plaque to honor those who defended the Capitol on January 6. Meanwhile, though Congress has not installed the memorial to the officers who defended it, members have managed to honor the man who inspired the violence."
