ADAPTIVE INDOMITABLE UKRAINE in the EU. Slovakia's Robert Fico Caves, Hungary's Orban is Next [1]

It all began in November 2013. Ukrainians in their myriads went out and stayed in the streets for days without relent to protest then-President Viktor Yanukovych's decision to reject an association agreement with the European Union in favor of closer ties with Russia. They were incensed by this betrayal of their collective aspiration to become “European” by their president who was a close ally of Putin. In the face of violent and deadly government crackdowns, the wave of nation-wide protests escalated … eventually becoming the Maidan, also known as the Euromaidan or Revolution of Dignity.
In February 2014, Yanukovych was forced out, escaping into exile in Moscow. In August, Vladimir Putin sent his “Little Green Men” to invade and seize Crimea. Shortly thereafter, armed men of unknown nationality attacked and took over Ukrainian government offices and facilities in the Donbas regions of Donetsk and Luhansk. In short order the armed men declared a separatist rebellion in order to form two new states independent from the government in Kyiv … the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR). Vladimir Putin and Russia quickly endorsed and recognized their separatist aspirations, granting them full support including military assistance.
Though ill-prepared for such a military confrontation, the Ukrainian government decided to face up to the challenge and quash the separatist rebellion. Putin’s diaphanous attempt to destabilize and thereby assert influence on the government of Ukraine was clear for all to see. The Ukrainians were not going to put up with it. They had made their choice to be EUROPEANS and they are not turning back. And Putin, in turn, was determined to stop it. For all practical intents and purposes, the Russo-Ukrainian War had begun. Russia’s actual invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022 in retrospect looks like an inexorable consequence of all the events which had been in train up till that point.
Nevertheless, no matter what Putin and Russia have thrown at the Ukrainians since 2014, the Ukrainians have stood their ground and have by any and all objective markers, fought the once feared mighty Russian war machine to a frazzle. And all the while, the Ukrainians have kept their eyes firmly focused on the prize … accession to full membership of the European Union and full integration into the European economic system. Putin and his minions in the Kremlin may huff and puff all they want and continue their odious campaign of daily bombardment of innocent civilians. Nothing that they do will keep the Ukrainians from their collective national appointment with their destiny … to break away from the ages old grip of Moskva Rus and the concomitant serial impositions and depredations … to become Western European in every way and deed.
But Putin’s self-serving minions in the political leadership of Ukraine’s neighbor countries Hungary and Slovakia, in the persons of Viktor Orban and Robert Fico, respectively, have been consistently quite vocal in their opposition to Ukraine’s accession to the EU, proffering all manner of inane reasons and even personal attacks on President Zelenskyy. But it would now appear that all that vituperative bruiting was a sham purposed to get some more money out of the EU treasury. In essence, it now appears that Fico and Orban could be bought off … with cash … to agree to the beginning of negotiations for Ukrainian EU accession.
The news comes today that Fico has already received his proverbial thirty pieces of silver and will now agree to Ukraine's membership in EU if Ukraine fulfills all conditions:
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has said he supports Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and sees “significantly more opportunities than negatives” in it, the Slovak government’s press service reported. “The Slovak government wants European development for Ukraine, if Ukraine wants to join the EU, this is its sovereign decision, and we support this decision,” Robert Fico said, adding that Ukraine must fulfill the conditions for joining the EU.
He also pointed out that Slovakia received EUR 101 million from the European Union (emphasis mine) for various projects, mainly focused on energy infrastructure in Ukraine. en.interfax.com.ua/...
Perhaps Fico has seen the light … that Putin and Russia will not be able to defeat Ukraine and that his own country might as well get on the band wagon and benefit from the coming huge economic boon of reconstructing Ukraine. Here’s hoping Viktor Orban will also come around. Casting one’s lot with Putin is a sucker’s bet. Iran, Hezbollah, Syria, the Houthis, Mali and others are just now finding that out. There’s likely no hope for Krasnov. But hopefully in their bright good future ahead ADAPTIVE INDOMITABLE UKRAINE will maintain a store of goodwill towards Americans when they remember how President Biden stood with them.
SLAVA UKRAINI ! PEREMOHA(Victory) !!
