Photo Diary: My Pets [1]

Now that I have given up traveling in the van and have settled down in a mobile home park, I am able to once again have some pets. I love animals and have always had pets, though my tastes are … unusual. No pooties or woozles for me: I prefer the creepy-crawly things that most people don’t like. So, some photos of my pets:

(NOTE: If you are phobic about spiders or other creepy-crawlies, you might wanna skip this one ...)

“Seerket” is my Asian Forest Scorpion. She is about half-grown.

Alas, “Seerket” spends nearly all her time inside her hidey-hole and the only time I see her is when she gets hungry and sits at the entrance to her burrow waiting for a cricket to wander by.

“Bugsy Siegel” is a Mexican Blonde tarantula. She (I think it’s a “she”—males generally have longer legs and slimmer bodies than females) is also only half-grown.

You can see new black hairs under that bald patch, which means she will be molting soon.

And she did

My colony of False Death’s-Head Cockroaches. The adults have wings, but they cannot fly very well.

Freshly-molted adult

How can anybody NOT love an adorable little face like this?

I’ve always liked Bettas (formerly known as “Siamese Fighting Fish”). They are calm and stately and have lovely flowing fins.
