Miller Won’t Meet his 3,000 a Day Deportation Quota Because of Trump? [1]

Orders changing enforcement rules were emailed by senior ICE official Tatum King to regional ICE department heads on Thursday: “Effective today, please hold on all work site enforcement investigations/operations on agriculture (including aquaculture and meat packing plants), restaurants and operating hotels.”
It seems that some of Trump’s corporate supporters in the Agricultural (think Archer-Daniels-Midland Company, etc) and Food (think Tyson Foods, etc) industries not to mention the hospitality industry finally got through to our dear leader as to the negative effects on the economy (and their bottom line) from indiscriminate raids on workplaces heavily reliant on undocumented labor. This is a good news/bad news mix. Food prices won’t go up as much from rotting crops in the fields or idled slaughterhouses etc as we get to keep this underclass slave-like labor force. American citizens are far less willing to work for the paltry wages and bad conditions that come with most of these jobs.
From The Los Angeles Times: “Today, farmworkers in the state earn about $30,000 a year if they work full time—about half the overall average pay in California,” notes the Times. “Most work fewer hours.” The second sentence here is key: most farmworkers are not employed 40 hours a week 52 weeks a year, so most earn far less than $30,000 per year.
Farmworkers are mostly seasonal as are quite a few in the hospitality industry. This Trump administration about-face will allow this exploitation to continue but at least these hardworking human beings won’t be terrorized in their workplaces on top of everything else they have to put up with.
