Renewable Friday: Fast EV Charging for the Win! [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

Date: 2025-06-13

BYD in China was the first to announce seriously fast battery charging for EVs. Then came CATL, which I reported on Tuesday. Now here is the third such announcement. I said that ultra-fast charging is one of those ideas that lots of people get at the same time when conditions ripen. The question, of course, is when these three kinds of battery can get into new-model cars and reach customers in the various countries of the world. These Toshiba batteries are now available only in sample quantities for engineers to test and start qualifying.

Unless Trump chickens out on his car tariffs or the courts untangle that mess (now on appeal), the US will have to wait another 4 years.

x 🔋 #Toshiba to ship SCiB™Nb #fastcharging battery samples by June 2025. The #NTO-based battery supports 80% charge in 10 mins and up to 15,000 cycles, aimed at commercial #EVs. Incumbents Have Underestimated the Speed of Change

That’s because pessimism comes from failing to see that change has been exponential, not linear:

x 🇷🇴 Azomureș, Romania’s last #fertiliser plant, consumes 10% of national gas & is a major #CO₂ emitter. With €640M/year in projected carbon costs by 2050, conventional #ammonia is unsustainable. EPG explores two decarbonisation paths: #blue vs #green ammonia.
