YOU CAN REPOST IT AS COMMENT in the DIARY

WHEN YOU FIND SOMETHING in the DIARY that you LIKE

EVERY PERSON WHO COMMENTS WILL GET A CRITTER

THE PERSON who MAKES the FIRST COMMENT WILL GET TWO CRITTERS

(Or NOT As the CASE MAY BE)

YOU WILL FIND in the DIARIES a LOT of POLITICS

=====================

======================

===

The reason a senator was arrested was because he failed to identify himself? The first thing he said was “I’m Senator Alex Padilla!” Did they really think that the guy in the senate-logo shirt was an illegal criminal migrant gang member? Did Kristi Noem and her protectors think “I have a question” was a dangerous threat?

===

And it’s not just a one-off.

x Not taking anything away from Senator Padilla because he was treated atrociously But I JUST want to remind everyone that the Congresswoman LaMonica McIver, a Black woman, was just indicted for just asking questions at an ICE detention center in her state Keep that same energy of support for her — Atima Omara (@atimaomara.bsky.social) June 12, 2025 at 2:41 PM

===

There are rules about how officers should treat members of congress.

x We drill into military officers that Members of Congress have Constitutional oversight rights, Members outrank four-stars in protocol, and even Congressional staffers are treated like generals/admirals. To see sworn federal officers manhandle and handcuff a U.S. Senator... I'm still shook up.

Does ICE really think that guys waiting for a job at Home Depot are criminals? Moms picking up kids at school? Or these dangerous farm hands?

The National Guard and Marines are anything but enthusiastic about assignment to LA.

California national guards troops and marines deployed to Los Angeles to help restore order after days of protest against the Trump administration have told friends and family members they are deeply unhappy about the assignment and worry their only meaningful role will be as pawns in a political battle they do not want to join. Three different advocacy organisations representing military families said they had heard from dozens of affected service members who expressed discomfort about being drawn into a domestic policing operation outside their normal field of operations. The groups said they have heard no countervailing opinions. (The Guardian)

===

Yesterday Judge Breyer ordered that the California National Guard be returned to Newsom’s leadership. The appeal (you knew there would be one) pauses that ruling but only for a few days.

x The temporary pause doesn’t mean the court disagrees with the judge, it’s just an administrative stay. The panel will make a ruling after fully reviewing the case on June 17. Trump knows our courts move slowly, and he’s exploiting that to his advantage. — Alt National Park Service (@altnps.bsky.social) June 13, 2025 at 5:33 AM

Governor Newsom has been outspoken.

x Enten: How many people watched Gavin Newsom's speech on just YouTube alone? Over 3 million folks. Joe Rogan, his average podcast episode over the last month has averaged only 1.6 million YouTube views, so Newsom's speech.. very, very popular.

As a display of presidential power, the LA action isn’t doing Trump much good.

x Im telling you the corporate and billionaire media is irretrievably broken. ANd btw why has no one reported that the Marines AREN'T EVEN THERE? came up at the hearing today

All this to distract us from the other issues: The Trump / Musk breakup, the continuing action of now-leaderless DOGE, TACO, the Big Beautiful Bill, the tariff battle. With three and a half weeks to go to the end of the tariff pause, Trump’s “90 deals in 90 days” promise is up to...well, there’s at least a start on two deals: China and UK.

x Solid summary of the state of play in trad deals right now, including this from a Trump ally: “I have no fucking clue what their strategy is.” www.politico.com/news/2025/06...

Trump has second thoughts about whether DOGE got rid of government waste. Who could have done that better than Elon Musk?

x Donald Trump asked whether Elon Musk's failed DOGE experiment was "all bullshit."

Spoiler: it was.

So I sent Trump a list of suggestions to cut $2 trillion in true government waste without gutting government programs and jacking up costs for families.

This item has been buried under all the other outrage. Not only does the House want to defund NPR and PBS, but they want to claw back a couple years of past funding.

x House Republicans passed a bill that would claw back $1.1 billion from public broadcasting, including NPR and PBS, and $8.3 billion for foreign assistance programs. — Alt National Park Service (@altnps.bsky.social) June 12, 2025 at 5:48 PM

===

This item went under the radar too. The NIH fights back.

x 🚨BREAKING: 300+ NIH employees call out the harm of censorship & politicized science in scathing email to Bhattacharya, demanding an end to political interference, a lift on funding freezes, & rehiring of fired staff whose work saves lives. This is historic - insiders are blowing the whistle.

As if there wasn’t enough going on…

Here’s ongoing coverage on Israel and Iran from The Guardian.

===

We all know what tomorrow is: the army’s anniversary parade and the president’s birthday. Thunderstorms are predicted in Washington but the military parade is on, rain or shine.

It’s also No Kings Day.

===

Does Trump have a hamster in his pocket or is he really using the royal “we?”

x "No, no, we're not a king. We're not a king at all." — President Donald Trump, 6/12/2025 — Peter Sagal (@petersagal.bsky.social) June 12, 2025 at 5:24 PM

While nationwide protests have been largely peaceful, things are heating up. Go, of course, but be careful out there. Click here for some safety tips and links.

x Tomorrow is the big day. Our goal: to show the power of the 3.5% rule right here in the U.S. Over 100,000 coalition members and their families will be attending events across the country to help as needed. — Alt National Park Service (@altnps.bsky.social) June 13, 2025 at 4:21 PM

x - Water

- First aid kit

- Eye protection

- A mask

- Emergency contact’s phone number, memorized or written down — Alt National Park Service (@altnps.bsky.social) June 13, 2025 at 4:21 PM

x And if you meet a coalition member?

Just remember the first rule of fight club. — Alt National Park Service (@altnps.bsky.social) June 13, 2025 at 4:21 PM
