My Aunt voted for him... [1]

And guess what? She’s still my favorite aunt.

My aunt is in her 80’s and watches faux news.

Maybe it’s a culture thing, but I don’t get the “cutting off” of family members except for the most violent of actions, such as murders and child abuse. And believe me I’ve had reasons if I wanted to cut off my family members (see my #RaisingNate entries). That being said, I’m not really “close” with a lot of my family (again refer to RaisingNate series) so maybe it’s easier on me? I don’t know.

My aunt is different than most of my family, even though she’s conservative and they are mostly not, go figure. She loves me and I love her. All 3 of her children have some sort of neurological medical issue, and my uncle has leukemia. My Aunt takes care of all of them without complaints, her spirits are always up, she never talks bad about anyone no matter what and she helps out people whenever she can.

I honestly have no idea how she could have voted for him? We don’t talk about it, we know we are on opposite sides of the spectrum when it comes to politics, but I send her things and I post things… and the other day she liked one of my political postings that was very anti him… progress!

Almost nothing my aunt does is in line with the actual conservative movement, except that she is a snob and she doesn’t believe in LGBTQIA rights. She was a teacher for decades, she’s travelled the world (my uncle is a Marine Vet), and she’s kind. I’m sneaky, I don’t discuss politics with her, but I do discuss other things and current events. Weird thing is, if she doesn’t know about the origins of something, she’ll see the problem right away. But if it’s linked to him or conservatives, she’ll try to find excuses. It’s a disconnect in her brain, she absolutely cannot conceive of conservatives doing anything wrong.

Now like I said, my aunt is nearing her 90’s, when it comes to my couple of cousins who are conservatives though, I have no problem arguing with them, but we still don’t cut ties. We yell, fight, scream, shake our heads, call each other all kinds of stupid names during said fights but at the end of the day we’re not enemies. I’ve even managed to turn one of them. I’m still working on the other.

Anyways, why am I writing this today? Because yesterday I saw a few comments about “hero worship, cult” etc.. on my entry on Newsom, We need to learn that supporting someone in one thing, doesn’t mean supporting everything they do. People are not wholly good or wholly bad, the trick with dealing with people is to know how to deal with them by knowing who they are, once you know what makes someone tick you can deal with them. It’s not hero worship, knowledge is power. Some people though, we know that what we’d have to do to get them to do what we want is too much, like kissing the Cheeto’s ass to get him to agree to stuff, we just refuse to sink that low. But we can handle Newsom or whoever else wins the future dem primaries.
