No one seems to have noticed that Trump quoted an infamous mass murderer as well as a famous dictator.

- "He who saves his Country does not violate any Law." — President Donald Trump , Feb. 15 2025, Truth Social, repeated by him on Xitter: www.snopes.com/...

— President , Feb. 15 2025, Truth Social, repeated by him on Xitter: www.snopes.com/... - ”He who saves his country, violates no law" — mass murderer Anders Breivik , 2011 manifesto: en.wikipedia.org/…

— mass murderer , 2011 manifesto: en.wikipedia.org/… - “He who saves his fatherland violates no law.” ("Celui qui sauve sa patrie ne viole aucune loi") — Honoré de Balzac, citing Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte: www.snopes.com/…

Breivik “carried out the 2011 Norway attacks in which he killed eight people by detonating a van bomb at Regjeringskvartalet in Oslo, and then killed 69 participants of a Workers' Youth League (AUF) summer camp, in a mass shooting on the island of Utøya” according to wikipedia.

He opposed immigration and Islam, and blamed feminism for European "cultural suicide". A team of court-appointed forensic scientists “concluded that he was not psychotic during the attacks but did have narcissistic personality disorderand antisocial personality disorder. In prison, Breivik became a supporter of Donald Trump[42] and Russia under Vladimir Putin.”

I suppose it’s possible that Stephen Miller came across the quote reading Balzac, but it seems more likely he or someone else in Trump’s circle read it in Breivik’s manifesto and passed it on to Trump. It’s truly sickening to imagine the likelihood that White House advisors may be familiar with Breivik’s screed, especially at the same moment that the Trump administration is copying Hitler’s step-by-step process toward authoritarianism.

At any rate, it’s horribly unsurprising that the current President of the United States and one of this century’s most despicable mass murderers share the exact same sentiment: not simply that the ends justify the means, but that individuals can rationalize setting themselves above the law if they only have the egomaniacal arrogance to believe they’re “saving their country”. Who in their right mind can claim “I alone can fix it”? The obvious answer is no one in their right mind.

I won’t be around to discuss this; it’s past dawn and I desperately need to sleep. See you on Saturday.
