Date: 2025-06-12

Congresswoman Lucy McBath was elected to Georgia's 6th Congressional District in 2018, 2020 and 2024 and to Georgia's 7th Congressional District in 2022 (the 6th and 7th Districts undergoing redistricting). In the 2018 election, McBath became the first Democrat to win in the 6th District since 1993. Congresswoman Lucy McBath is one of 5 Black members of the US House of Representatives currently representing Georgia, and one of 11 ever elected from Georgia.

During her tenure in office, Congresswoman McBath has been the primary sponsor of 8 bills enacted into law. So far, in the 119th Congress, she has been the primary sponsor of 5 bills. Rep. Lucy McBath is a member of the House Judiciary Committee, serving as the Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance of that committee. She is also a member of the House Committee on Education and Workforce, serving on the Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions and Higher Education and Workforce Development subcommittees of that committee.

Congresswoman Lucy McBath's son, Jordan Davis, was killed in an act of gun violence on November 23, 2012 and since then, she has committed her life to preventing gun violence, which is reflected in her work in Congress. During this month, which is Gun Violence Awareness Month, Congresswoman McBath has been interviewing her colleagues, asking them to share stories that motivate them to end gun violence. All of these shorts can be viewed on her YouTube site.

Here are a couple of Congresswoman Lucy McBath’s interviews of her colleagues:

The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform held a hearing entitled, “The Federal Government in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”.

At the beginning of the meeting, temporary Ranking Member Stepen Lynch moved to subpoena Elon Musk. The R’s didn’t have enough members to block the Democrats’ votes, so they broke the rules and suspended the hearing until enough R’s joined the hearing.

x Looks like Republicans don’t have enough votes to table a motion on subpoenaing Elon Musk so instead of voting on it, they seem to be delaying the vote while their members arrive claiming the clerk needs to prepare. pic.twitter.com/L4qfDMwgda — Acyn (@Acyn) June 5, 2025

x This morning, Democrats tried to subpoena Elon Musk so he could answer to the American people. But instead of standing with us, Republicans spent about 30 minutes scrambling to shut down debate and protect their favorite billionaire. — Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (@repjasmine.bsky.social) 2025-06-05T15:54:19.010Z
