A Short Response Regarding Readers’ Objections to My Anti-Religious Articles on The Daily Kos [1]

Three common objections I hear often:

1. That the readers of the Daily Kos already know that the Bible is made up fiction, so I am just wasting my time (and their time) preaching to the choir.

My guess is that those readers are not aware of the long-term and often life-time damages that individuals suffer from Religious Trauma Syndrome, often due to childhood indoctrination (see link below). The fact that the links I often post at the end of my articles are hit around a thousand times the first day or two, indicates there is much more interest in articles of this nature than many readers may think. Maybe we all are in a bubble of some sort. Millions, yes millions of children and adults suffer great agony, believing that someone they loved who has died, may be burning in an endless hell, ALL BECAUSE OF THE INDOCTRINATION THEY HAD CRAMMED DOWN THEIR THROATS, EVEN BEFORE THEY HAD THE ABILITY TO CRITICALLY THINK. And that is not the only damage that frequently occurs.

2. Another objection is that most of what I say is from the Old Testament, and since many readers believe that Jesus and/or the New Testament did away with those things, what is my point? Several even suggested that it is an outright attack to Judaism, as the Old Testament is their scripture.

Let me remind those readers that the ENTIRE FOUNDATION of the New Testament is based on the Old. Just one of its many examples is that the need for a savior due to original sin comes directly from the Garden of Eden. Further, the New Testament clearly teaches that Jesus is God (John 1 and others); and the Bible states that God never changes nor repents. He is, it states, “the same yesterday, today, and forever.” THUS, assuming the Bible is from God, (while I certainly do not think so, but billions apparently do) everything its God did or said in the Old is actually the work and words of Jesus. Its God is said to be absolutely perfect, so any mistakes or immorality, defeats that argument, yet the fear of hell and heavy guilt for just being human, lingers on.

3. Thirdly is the objection that most people do not take the Bible literally anyway, but understand it is merely metaphors, idioms, or other figurative language that is intended to mean something

else. What well-meaning messages can possibly be obtained through commands for genocides, slavery, rapes, and even cannibalism is beyond my comprehension.

Yes, while faith can help comfort and provide hope (false hope), that same faith is something that will allow you to believe absolutely anything you can possibly think of. And oh how the Republicans know how to manipulate it in spades. 9/11 is another example of faith gone wrong.

Two great resources for anyone seeking some relief from their childhood indoctrination are Recovering from Religion (offers 24-hour chats and vetted licensed therapists) and Journey Free, (has many informative articles regarding the Religious Trauma Syndrome (RTS), both non-profits. Peace.
