House Republicans sue Jocelyn Benson over Michigan election materials LANSING — Michigan’s Republican-led House is suing Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, claiming the second-term Democrat has failed to turn over election training materials they requested despite a recent subpoena. “Government actors, regardless of their title, all have a responsibility to uphold their constitutional oath and adhere to the law,” Rep. Jay DeBoyer, a Clay Republican and chair of the House Oversight Committee, said in a statement on Thursday after filing a lawsuit in the Michigan Court of Claims. www.bridgemi.com/...
Fighting for the Orthodox vote Some of New York City’s most influential Orthodox Jewish leaders are flexing their political might in this month’s mayoral primary — while also being courted as general election powerbrokers. Andrew Cuomo was endorsed this week by Hasidic leaders in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, including both sides of the Satmar community. City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams was their second pick. Adams was endorsed Monday by more than two dozen Hasidic groups in Borough Park, Brooklyn — with Zellnor Myrie their nod for No. 2 on the June 24 ballot. Adams additionally received Orthodox tenant leaders’ support Tuesday. www.politico.com/...

Oklahoma Democrat racks up 50-point overperformance in massive landslide Democrats turned in another set of strong showings on Tuesday in the largest one-night batch of special elections so far this year, while Republicans appeared to fall just short of flipping a seat in New England. The most dominant victory came in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Democrat Amanda Clinton, a public relations consultant and a member of the Cherokee Nation, cruised to a 69-point landslide over Republican Beverly Atteberry to defend the 71st House District. Since Kamala Harris carried this constituency by a 19-point margin, Clinton's win represented a 50-point overperformance—the second-largest this year. www.the-downballot.com/...
Why Republicans think they can win the race to lead New Jersey Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill and former Republican Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli won their respective primaries on Tuesday and will face off in what may wind up as the most intently watched election of 2025. Sherrill defeated Newark Mayor Ras Baraka 34-20 in the expensive six-way primary for governor of New Jersey, with Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop just behind in third place with 16%. Ciattarelli, who had Donald Trump's endorsement, beat conservative radio host Bill Spadea 68-22 to win the GOP nod. www.the-downballot.com/...
Brooks would consider 2026 Senate run ‘if necessary’ HUNTSVILLE — Former U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks says he’s not actively seeking a return to public office but if the right Republican candidate doesn’t emerge in Alabama’s 2026 Senate race, he may step in himself. In an interview with 256 Today, the former congressman said he is enjoying retirement and time with his 14 grandchildren. However, he hasn’t ruled out running to succeed Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who announced his candidacy for governor last month. today.com/...

Former Rep. Joe Walsh is considering a bid against GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham Joe Walsh, the former Tea Party congressman, right-wing radio host and current Never Trumper, is eyeing a possible move to South Carolina. He says he’s considering a run as a Democratic Senate candidate against Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham. Walsh, who became a registered Democrat last week, told POLITICO that Democrats have to take a new, asymmetrical approach to their Republican opponents and have to “fucking wake up and begin to do different things.” www.politico.com/...
