In a move that upends 87 years of precedent, the Office of Legal has told Trump he can abolish monuments made by other presidents.s to put it in prespective, of the roughly 135 nationals currently holdking that status, more than 100 have never been addressed by Congress. taken to its extreme, Trump could erase nearly all national monuments, by fiat. the fact that such moves would certainly be reversed by a Democratic sucesssor is beside the point, the structure butressing monuments for 119 years is that presidents, regardless of party, respect the actions taken by their predecessors, that monuments endure, regardless of who is president, for the American people, and the world at large to enjoy. This opinion would make monuments at best temporary, added by Democrats then reversed by Republicans. It is dangerous, radical and unAmericaan. To say I am livid is putting it mildly This needs to be challenged in court immediately and struck down by the courts. The only body that can revkoke monuments is Congress. Period. The only body that can shrink monuiments, is Congress period. This cannot , and must not stand
