Trump rants about sending in the troops and "federal permitting" [1]

Trump just can't stop talking about the Los Angeles protests and how great he is. This morning is no different. And as confusing as ever.
"If I didn't 'SEND IN THE TROOPS' to Los Angeles the last three nights, that once beautiful and great City would be burning to the ground right now..."
The National Guard was only there the last two nights. They guarded federal buildings only. The LAPD and sheriff's did everything else.
The only thing that burned were cars. Maybe some police cars, private cars, and WAYMO auto driving taxis that police were getting video from to identify protesters.
"... like 25,000 houses burned to the ground in L.A. do to an incompetent Governor and Mayor -"
Donald used "do" instead of "due," but we'll not make a big deal about it, but there's also the random dash. There were 11,000 homes burned down with maybe a total of 18,000 structures including the homes. Donald is just making up numbers again. Comparing that destruction to the few burning cars is, well, typical Donald hyperbole.
"Incidentally, the much more difficult, time consuming, and stringent FEDERAL PERMITTING PROCESS is virtually complete on these houses..."
There is no federal permitting process for individual homes, only for large infrastructure. Donald has gotten himself mixed up with EPA permitting for oil and gas exploration and other EPA permitting laws Lee Zeldin is ignoring.
"... while the easy and simple City and State Permits are disastrously bungled up and WAY BEHIND SCHEDULE!"
L.A. County permits are being granted 10-15 days after application. It's Altadena, only, the victim of the Eaton fire, where permits are slow in coming. L.A. City is 5 days for clearances and reviews within 30 days. Under normal circumstances, getting a permit to build a single family home can take over a year.
Gov. Newsom signed an executive order back in January to suspend state requirements and stamped down on price gouging.
Mayor Bass did similar action to speed up the rebuilding process.
"People want to rebuild their houses. Call yourself incompetent Governor and Mayor, the Federal permitting is DONE!!!"
There never was any federal permitting to be done. Donald is bloviating about something that doesn't exist, except in his own mind, if he has one.
Apparently, this was Trump's line of attack to distract attention away from his misuse, and illegal use, of sending in National Guard troops and Marines.
Donald needed something to brag about, so he did.
Fort Bragg was originally named after Confederate General Braxton Bragg. As part of renaming federal forts and other federal entities and public lands, it was renamed Fort Liberty in 2023. In February, 2025, it was renamed to Fort Bragg, but this time after WWII paratrooper Roland L. Bragg. That's the story, like we're supposed to believe that. It was to name it back after the Confederate general. No one is fooled.
Donald is so in love with himself that he's saying his speech is important and that he will have a big crowd. There is a captive audience. 52,000 military personnel are stationed there on a base covering 251 square miles. Nearly all troops will probably show up except ones on active duty running the base.
The permitting in L.A. is a problem in getting houses rebuilt, but it's not like 11,000 of them can be built simultaneously. Not logistically and manpower possible.
Trump just wants to claim victory over L.A. because his response to the L.A. protests is wrong, he's being sued and will lose, and nobody will give him credit for anything except causing the problem with ICE raids in the first place.
That's the best he could come up with this morning.
