Important Update Regarding Potential Kenyatta - Hogg Vice Chair Revote
In February’s vote Rep. Kenyatta bested Hogg, 298 votes to 214.5. If the credentials committee report passes Vice Chairs Malcolm Kenyatta and David Hogg would compete head-to-head again.
David and Malcolm have previously committed to running again.
Rep. Kenyatta calls on all candidates to join him in requesting the DNC host one virtual forum should credentials vote pass.
Philadelphia— Today, the full body of the Democratic National Committee began voting electronically on the Credentials Committee report re: Hogg/Kenyatta Vice Chair election. Voting remains open until Wednesday at 5pm.
“While I was deeply disappointed by the Committee’s recommendation to void the February election results, I look forward to the full body bringing this process to a close and ending any questions about the validity of the election results.
Both David Hogg and I have previously said we’re running again. I welcome that.
In the original election to fill the male identified role I received 298 votes to his 214.5.
The question before the credentials committee was essentially if there should have been another ballot after I defeated David by a comfortable margin.
They ruled that there should have been another ballot and that is effectively the issue before DNC voters now. I’m proud of the broad coalition that supported me then, and I look forward to making the case again.
The stakes are too high to let internal drama overshadow the work we need to do: rebuilding trust, winning elections, and delivering for working people. That’s the work I’ve focused on every day as Vice Chair, and it’s the work I’ll continue to do.
A few weeks ago I asked the DNC for one virtual forum should the full-body approve a re-vote. I urge David and the other eligible candidates to join me in this request
####Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta serves PA’s 181st Legislative District and is DNC Vice Chair
