First, the law.

There are no constitutional exceptions to the Posse Comitatus Act. The law allows only for express exceptions, and no part of the Constitution expressly empowers the president to use the military to execute the law. This conclusion is consistent with the law’s legislative history, which suggests that its drafters chose to include the language about constitutional exceptions as part of a face-saving compromise, not because they believed any existed."

Pretty clear. These folks have been waiting for an excuse to push this issue. And it's happening in real time.

IANAL, but as I understand things, even following the order to deploy is a violation of law. Without the President invoking the Insurrection Act officially, or Congress approving this action, the administration and the Marine Corps are violating the constitution. Please rake me over the coals if I am missing something. I get that this is nothing new for these folks. But this is a HUGE escalation. Not just in semantics, but ethically, legally, and constitutionally. We are at a crossroads.

What happens next? My opinion is that the military brass, or unit leadership should refuse the order. I've talked to family and friends in the past hour who say "no they wont do that, but they will refuse to engage." My response is simple, and terrifying. What happens when they get hit in the face? The issue is when people (military or civilians) are put into a position with inevitable conflict, things escalate. Again, this is the goal. If that happens, and the military responds, we are in a completely different reality. Once that line is crossed there is no going back.

I'm honestly terrified watching this. I know it gets over used, but this is exactly how Germany turned to darkness in the 30's. If this turns the wrong way we are in for very dark days ahead.
