Age Related

I play most of my pool at a community center due to proximity to my home, relatively low price, and a group of folks who have become a community. The age range is from the 60s to 94. As you can imagine, the manifestations of age have been front and center, with surgeries, Alzheimer's, falls, etc. The EMTs have been called several times. We have folks on oxygen, occasional wheelchairs, and sometimes someone with a caregiver (angels) will come and play a few games.

One of the regulars was recently diagnosed with cancer which has spread to his bones. Not three weeks ago he played a few games but complained of being tired. Soon he was in ICU and many of our group visited him. When I was there he said he just wanted to see his dog and his backyard, and wanted to have a BBQ for the pool group. I was skeptical, and I just got a call that he was at his daughter’s house, and on morphine.

I post this to share my sadness with my KTK community, which is similar to our pool community in caring and connections with each other. It’s such a rough time for our country, we all need to focus on our own circles as much as possible and never lose sight of the good. We’ll get through this.
