Burn the Mutha Down! [1]

I’m seeing a disturbing amount of comments advocating violence during protests. Commenters, a small but significant number, are highy agitated and tightly wound and are urging us to take to the streets and burn the mutha down.
This is WRONG and is EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT.
Before you label me a foolish peacenik who just doesn’t get it, let me give a bit of my background. I served 3 years in the active Army followed by 3 years in the National Guard. I grew up in a housing project in Detroit and ran around with street gangs, bikers, and drug dealers. IF the government goes to war against us, I will fight and fight hard. BTW, I earned an expert marksman medal and could plant bullets in a quarter-sized grouping at 300 meters with my M16A1 rifle.
But this ain’t the time.
This is the time when Trump and his minions are trying to provoke us into a violent response so they can unleash the hounds on us.
Consider history. Vietnam War protests. BLM protests. George Floyd protests. Pro-Palestine protests. What do they all have in common? They consisted of thousands or millions of peaceful protestors who were tarred with being violent rioters because of the actions of a relative handful of criminals taking advantage of the situation.
Consider yesterday’s protests in Los Angeles. On Saturday evening, Trump insisted the unrest was out of control and activated 2,000 National Guard troops. SecDef Pete Hegseth threatened to unleash the US Marines from nearby Camp Pendleton.
Why?
Some protesters yelled at deputies, and a series of flash-bang grenades was deployed. After a time, some protesters responded by throwing rocks and other items at ICE vehicles. The crowds grew and a Border Patrol official said an agent was hurt, a car was set on fire and some were lobbing rocks and bottles at L.A. County sheriff’s deputies. The LASD said that it had arrested two people on suspicion of assaulting an officer on Saturday night. One allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail, and three deputies were struck, causing minor injuries, the department said. Source: www.latimes.com/...
Wow, that really sound like World War 3, doesn’t it?
And we have no idea who the violent persons are or what their motivations were. As Meteor Blades wrote in a comment on his excellent dairy:
Agents provcateurs are always around, official ones or amateur. In 1974 when a number of people I engaged in political work with looked into our FBI files, we managed to peace together who the police informant and police in our organization had been. All three of them have been the loudest and most incessant advocates of adopting violence.
Does it make sense to play into their hands with comments here advocating violence and mayhem? Does it make sense to burn the mutha down and give Trump/Hegseth what THEY want? No, it does not. We’re smarter than that. And we’re smarter than them. Keep your powder dry. We may need it someday, but today isn’t that day.
