Martir Garcia Laura, 10 detained by ICE [1]

A father and a son, went to their scheduled ICE meeting, were detained and separated and are now captive in different facilities. Imagine being 10, going to your ICE meeting with your dad and ending up in jail (basically) all for following the legal process of the country where you live.
Martir has been here since he was a babe or an infant, for he has been attending the same school since the 1st, grade… today Martir is in jail. He is 9 or 10 years old and in 4th grade.
Martir was detained by people who then went home and kissed their own children goodnight, never giving a second thought to the boy they separated from his father and put in jail for no damn reason, than because a cold blooded man told them they had a quota to meet.
This is the land of the free today. Aren’t we just so proud!
Where did the children’s laughter go?
Who stole the light out of children’s eyes
Replaced it with the shine of tears
Who stole the sound of children’s laughter
Replaced it with the sound of silent cries

Who stole the joy of the children’s life
Turned it into a journey of sorrow
Who stole the hope of children’s dreams
Turned it into the world of nightmares
---
Who but the adults of this world
Who but the grown ups of the earth
Who but the ones who rule over them
Who but we the monsters we’ve become
SoCal 4th grader detained by ICE at immigration hearing
